Bah! Great as a media edvice but anyone who intends to use it as an e-reader has rocks in their heads. Apart from the issue of eye strain there's also the fact that you can't use it in daylight to read. And e-reading does seem to be a major plank for the device.
 
what if you had a iPhone that could couldnt make calls and couldnt fit in your pocket?

its different, but with a new iPhone probably coming out soon youd think people would be trying to save their money for that?Unless theyre using this a a trial for the new Chips, Battery & software?

Yeah it is just a bigger iTouch with a bit of iPhone thrown in. Not really that revolutionary. They don't want them to be too useful to encroach on their overpriced laptop market, they want their consumers to want one of these to go with their iPod, iPhone and iMac :rolleyes:

Do I really need to dig up the vast array of forum posts (not from here) from the early 2000s that were adamant that if the rumours of some Apple phone were true, it would be a complete and utter failure?

what's that got to do with this? we've seen this and it's a bigger less portable iphone/ipod touch.

no camera, no muiltitasking (Seriously WTF, how hard can that be), no flash in the browser, if you want to use it as a reader, don't go outside, no phone functionality etc

It is a toy.


$629 with 3g in the USA will convert to at least $850 - 900 here. be useless without 3g. If i'm home/work i can use my laptops or PS3, if i'm out there are very few wi-fi points so i need 3g.

i'd have been happier if they had released a Macbook Air with a swivel screen that turned it into a tablet.


This thing has limited market, unlike a phone.


Maybe a couple of iterations on when it's fully functional i'll consider it. atm it's a wank.


I want phone functions, browser with flash, mem/sd/flash mem slots, at least 1 usb port, MULTI TASKING, tethering for the non 3G ipads.


it's not just us. read the apple sites, not impressed.

I have a Macbook and an iphone, this will replace neither of those things.

2. No built-in camera
3. No USB ports
4. No memory card read
5. Keyboard dock sold separately
6. No multi-tasking
7. No Adobe Flash support
8. Can only run Apple-sanctioned apps
9. Can only access iTunes videos and music
10. Lacks HDMI port
11. Screen is 4:3 aspect ratio, not 16:9 widescreen
12. No full GPS support
