What happened? Heard we won on DL by 60 odd runs, M.Clarke M.O.T.M with 56 & 3/25, said he would like to take the wicket with him for his left arm tweakers!

Well, the players came out onto the field, all ready to play, and the sightscreen still had the Digicel logo on. The bloody thing wouldn't turn over automatically, so the groundstaff had to go and turn each pane over manually. They thought they had done it, but the ump still wasn't pleased with it. So about 10 minutes later, they've finally turned all the panes over, and it starts raining!

It wasn't too heavy, so the players are still out on the field, but the groundsmen are getting the covers ready just in case the shower increases in intensity. The problem is, the covers are in front of the sightscreen! So the umps are madly waving the groundsmen out of the way, so we can get a ball bowled.

They manage to bowl 3 balls, and then it's brought to the umps attention that there's white benches in front of the sightscreen, so there's yet another delay getting them out of the way.

Eventually they manage to finish the over, and to cap it off, Watson gets trapped plumb in front off the last ball!

Took about half an hour to bowl

After tonight is over, I hope Grenada enjoy their last ever game of International cricket. I've seen better ground attendants at U12 D grade matches.

Shane Watson back with a bang! Glad to see him performing at international level, hopefully he can stay injury free and he will add hugely to the Australian team.

He's certainly always had the talent, just hasn't had the body.

Its making the formation of the test team interesting, cause no doubt he'd be in consideration for that squad too. Michael Clarke to bowl more and play Watson instead of a specialist spinner perhaps?

Makes sense, due to the fact that we don't have a test level spinner at present. Watson would give the test team amazing flexiblity, he could nearly get a game purely for his batting but can bowl around 150km as well. Symonds could also back up Clarke in the slow bowling deptmartment as well. Test team could look like this:

1. P. Jaques or S. Katich
2. M. Hayden
3. R. Ponting
4. M. Hussey
5. M. Clarke
6. S. Watson
7. A. Symonds
8. B. Haddin
9. B. Lee
10. M. Johnston
11. S. Clark

The batting looks very solid & deep without losing anything from the bowling, Casson out Watson in. Katich will probably & unluckily make way for Hayden.

Ummm no. Try 130.

He has been clocked at 153km/h in a match before.

Yeah, heard about that, but you would think with all his injuries and his history, he wouldn't get close to that.

I know personally, I had to change my bowling action because of back problems, and I haven't been able to get the pace I used to have (or thought I used to have :p).

Haven't seen him clocked recently, but he certainly has been able to hit in the 140's regularly before, and as MBP said been clocked over 150. The capability is there.

It was clocked at that pace at the WACCA if I recall correctly, I mean come on, I could bowl that fast on that pitch. Watson is a plodder with the ball, always has been always will be.

Yotr, you do know that a pitch has no bearing on how fast someone can bowl right?
Not necessarily. Brett Lee bowling on a slow wicket into the breeze will not get speeds over 150k's, guaranteed.

Bowling into the breeze, yes, but the slow wicket has nothing to do with it. The gun measures the speed of the ball out of the hand, which is why a breeze would effect it, but not the wicket.

The speed gun measures ball speed out of the hand. Only reason people would bowl fast on the WACA is cause they know something is in the pitch so they put in more.

Edit: What he said ^^^

I would put it down to the breezes there, not that I'm much of an expert with Perth weather.

It's like the match at the World Cup 2003 in S.A, when Binga was bowling with a strong sea breeze at his back, and was clocking high 150's despite the pitch being nothing special.

What MBP & Rick18 said^^^^. The fremantle doctor would certainly be nice at the back every game! Although some bowlers prefer to bowl into it like one D. Fleming did.

I will say that Watson is not the greatest bowler running around but as the fourth string fast he is more than adequate to help rest & back up the likes of Lee, Clark & Johnston and he could hold his spot on his batting alone! Giving the test side greater flexibilty and also relying on Clarke & Symonds performing spinning duties, which lets face it, is as good as any top line spinner in the country ATM, bar probably McGain who will struggle to get picked unless conditions are favourable.

Speaking of the Incompetent Cricket Council, reports out of Pakistan suggest the ICC are changing the result of the Darrell Hair match from 2006.

Now just remind me which rule Darrell didn't follow? Questionnable spirit perhaps, but DH followed the rules he was given.

Asia getting its way again, the Asian block is becoming more powerful by the minute. How can you change a result that has stood for about 2 years and was decided by the laws of cricket as ruled over by the ICC. Outrageous!

Also read on Cricinfo that Neilsen believes that Watson could open in test matches and replace Hayden when he retires. Interesting, not sure he is an opener after his horrendous run at State level when trying to replace Langer, but he has come a long way since then and is making runs opening at ODI level. Katich would still probably command at place at this stage.

You'd reckon by the time Hayden retires, which I am tipping is in just over a year after the Ashes, we should be looking more at Shaun Marsh than someone older like Katich as an opener. I have time for Katich, but we need to be grooming a young opener. There may be a spot for him down the order if someone gets injured or loses form.

Obviously it is all conjecture as the circumstances will have changed by the time of Haydens retirement. Form or injury will have a say no doubt, but we have a history of going for the older more experienced player in recent times (Ponting & Clarke excluded). Hopefully Marsh will have put that much pressure on the selectors with weight of runs, they will have no choice but to select him. But as a once great CEO said "Time will tell".

West Indies don't know how to win anymore! Should never have lost from that position. Good to see David Hussey debut and contribute, once again a debutant makes an impression!

I watched about the last 15 overs. They were cruising. Had it at close to run a ball needed the whole way and needed 14 off 20 balls at one point.
