iPod and USB

Looking to buy an iPod, however my PC (about 4 years old) doesn't have USB ports.

Am i able to buy another cable to enable me to connect an iPod to my PC?

Don't want to spend $500 and then find out that i can't link the two up.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Your PC may not have any obvious USB ports. But it's likely, given the age of your PC, that there would be a USB jack on your mother board, in which case, all you would need is a cable to thingy and enabling USB in your bios. Any computer shop can provide the cable thingy and shouldn't charge more than around $15. On your motherboard, look for some small metal spikes that will have USB written next to them.

If your motherboard truly doesn't have USB, then buy a USB card to plug into a PCI slot. This shouldn't cost more than $35.

I have one port with small metal spikes, although there is no USB written next to it.

There are 9 little metal spikes, no idea if that is a USB port.

I can pick one of those up from any PC shops, right?

Unless it acutally says USB opn the motherboard, don't attempt to plug it.

You're probably best off getting the pci USB card. Most computer shops have them. If you get the card, they'll be USB 2 rather than the USB 1.1 on your motherboard. This means files will transfer faster, which is handy for the iPod

Apple have just launched a new range of improved and cheaper iPods (by about $US 100). I'd recommend getting one of these, and as they start from 20GB, then the answer is go for the bigger (and better and cheaper) iPod. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1625271,00.asp

I have also been looking at getting the ipod.. This new version looks exactly the same as the ipod mini, especially in price but with a bigger HDD..
Does anybody know if there is an apple shop in the melbourne CBD? and whereabouts it is?

There are two Applecentres in the CBD, and one at Chadstone.

One in Elizabeth St (up the top), and one on Flinders St.
