Ok you techies out there I am currently living in Dublin and will be taking off early next year for about 10 months around Europe, Africa and South America

I want something that will store plenty of music as well as use it as a back up storage for my photos from my digital camera

which one should i buy and why?

Iriver. If you've got bucket loads of cash to spend on this thing (within reason) then don't go Ipod. There are much better players on the market. If I had the money, I would buy one of the Media centers that Creative make that can play music, watch DivX, Xvid, AVI's etc, display pics and ebooks.

Try the H300: http://www.iriver.com/product/info.asp?p_name=H340

2" colour TFT screen
Displays ebooks, images etc on the player.

I don't think it handles videos, like the Creative player. I really have no idea how much these units cost or what your budget is...

Try looking at the Creative players as they are supposed to be good also.

Update: Just googled and found the Iriver PMP-120: http://www.iriveramerica.com/products/pmp-120.aspx

3.5 inch colour screen
only 20GB Hard drive
FM Radio
Voice recorder
built in speaker
USB 2.0
Connects to home entertainment center
it costs $735 Aus

I think that will stay as a 'dream' player.

thanks Kingy

they seem to be very expensive in australia. i was on the iRiver and saw that the H-340 is US$429, as i'm earning € at the moment i'm prepared to spend a little more.

i've also got a mate coming over from Hong Kong soon so hopefully it will be a little cheaper there

I week through about 3 weeks deciding which MP3 Player.

I went out of the Creative Zen Touch, iPod and the iRiver.

iRiver bigger players are too expensive, too bulky. At first thought, I thought I would walk in and grab one. How wrong I was.

Creative Zen was a really good solid MP3 Player. Just a tad big I thought.. It didnt have as many features as the iPod but did come with an PM Tuner for the same price. Its battery also latested 40 hours. Massive.

People who have bagged the iPod obviously have something against Mac or are something. This player is the best. Even though Im not one for accessories, there are heaps. Its the smaller out of that and the Zen and has a beautifal strong finish. Mate, I love this thing and ended up buying it. Simply because its the best.

If u can get a copy of the Age Green guide from last wednesday they had an article about the Zen Touch VS iPod. Summarising, it said that the Zen Touch focuses on iPods flaws (battery life etc) and is a good MP3 player. But at the end of the day the writter said he couldnt wait to get back to his iPod and it is still easily the best on the market (i think the main point was it was easier to use, had more features and was lighter).

I have nothing against Ipod personally, I just think they are very overrated and for the price you pay you can get a much better player. Some people are getting whipped up into a frenzy thinking it has something major over the competition, even though its the comp that has something over it.

I have a ZEN Touch, and I must say it is clearly better than an iPod. What is so good about an iPod? So what, you get extra features like games, who buys an mp3 player to play games???

You get 24 hour battery on a ZEN touch. The scrolling is easier, it has good features when it comes to EQ settings (sound selection), a "find" feature so u can search by letters. So what if its slightly heavier? You dont constantly have to charge it like an iPod.

Thats my 2 cents. I find iPod's to be close to the bottom end of the market when it comes to mp3s. They are just the most popular because they were the first ones with so much storage.

And at the same price as an iPod, the ZEN provides much better value. You also get a FREE remote, which is a radio as well. As well as a good leather case. With an iPod they are all extras.

Well, if you are buying a player to be part of a fad, then by all means go an Ipod. But I say now, they DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT offer anything over the competition. Go Creative or Iriver. They simply have much better features for the price you pay. Like I said, my preference would be one of the multimedia players with colour screen.
