I was working, but am usually pretty curious about this kind of thing, so asked my brother to tape it.

Even given the saturation advertising of the last few weeks he managed to get the starting time wrong. I'm no expert, but isn't actually managing to watch the show the first test of intelligence?

Can you do it online?

I guess I'll never know, I checked on Sofcom for the time of it to set the video and according to that it ended at 8:30. So did my tape. Spewing cos I did the first part. Tests I have done before have been between 130 and 140, wouldn't mind having it professionally done to find out what it actually is. Come to think of it wouldn't have minded doing one BEFORE I discovered alcohol and compare with now. ;)

One thing that was confirmed out of that: Victorians are stupider than the rest of the country. :D

seeing i am 13 i didnt really get an IQ but i put myself in the 16-21 group i think it was and i think i did really well
52/76 - 103 IQ
:)

63/76 which equals 131

Of course it's not definitive, but it was a bit of fun. Was so drawn out though - a fast game is a good game !!

Score of 106. 71% of questions answered correctly. 54/76 questions answered correctly.

I think it's crap how they can just chop off scores the younger you are. 16-24? How can they expect a 17 year old to know more than a 24 year old?

The Hitman

I got a score of 58, which equates to an IQ of 112.

My sister got the same score, but because she's 6 years older than me, her IQ was 119.

Plus, my sister's boyfriend got a score of 55, but because he's 7 years older than me, got an IQ of 113.

How the hell do they figure that?

"I missed out on the wrestling for that" was the comment for the night.:p :p

HAHAHAHA! Great line!

I whined so much that the missus let me flick over to RAW. She was pretty keen to do the IQ test until she found out the show was going to run for 3 hours.

I am really annoyed with my score, and a I can't believe some of the silly mistakes I made ... The question saying how long to X and X usually ride for, I knew it was 45 minutes, but for some reason I said 60. I knew there were 5 banana's instead of 4, I knew the symbol for Calcium, even though I said C. I knew Carbon was C, jiust another silly mistake. There were a number of other silly mistakes I made, and ended up with 44 correct :(

I was waiting for questions about Sport to come up ... Or even the female body

I wanna challenge that Maths teacher to a game of AFL scores. I reckon I could give him a run for his money there.

I know what you mean, Hitman, I think it was heavily skewed to older people, surely you don't lose that much intelligence as you grow older! ;)

I was a bit perturbed I answered correctly 5 or 6 more questions than my folks yet they end up with the higher IQ, bloody over 60 geriatics!

They should have mentioned that the test was designed for adults (over 18's) or had another category for the 13-18 age group (and an 18-25 group) so that teenage viewers could have found an (semi-)accurate reading of their IQ, since younger people's mental capacity is still increasing.

I've done a few online ones before and scored in the late 120s - early 130s so I was kinda disappointed with my score last night, I'm obviously not as bright as I thought I was! :)

Felt sorry for the Kiwis though with Eddie constantly ribbing them bout their low scores, though it had me wondering, their schools must be really bad! ;)

And surely you would gain a lot of knowledge as you get older. Certainly enough to compensate the difference

The IQ test, as far as I know, is not designed to show how smart you are.

It is your capacity/potenital for learning.

Therefore older people know more stuff through life experience and have more grounding for learning new stuff (plus they're generally more mature), and therefore their IQ is higher.

Whereas a younger person has not had as much life experience therefore their general knowledge etc makes them less potential for learning and hense the lower score.

Now does that make sense?

I think its something like that anyway

FWIW, Eddie and Katrina were ribbing the blondes and celebs quite often as well...

Also wondering how our blonde friends on BigFooty did (stopping short at naming names, though)... Hey, I have the same hair colour, too, even if it does come from a bottle. :)

And regarding the scale being higher for one's elders, I believe the axiom "with age comes wisdom" rings a bell here. :D

Cheers,
William

127 for me. The test should be taken for what it is and nothing more.
I completely stuffed the second section of 6, the questions on sayings, I didn't have a clue on any of them and got the lot wrong. Funny, I always thought i was good at English and the like.
Anyway it really means nothing in the overall scheme of your life. I know people with a below average IQ's who are far more motivated than I am, and have therefore gone much further in their careers/financial life.
If you got an ordinary score dont worry, it means about as much as getting a good score - nothing.
Perhaps Suzi is the exception that proves the rule though :)

'With age comes wisdom"....wouldn't that mean that they should have scaled the test the other way. As you get older, you generally should know more:

Therefore if someone who is 20 gets the same number of questions right as someone who is 50, it should be the younger person who has the higher I.Q The older person would be expected to know more, shouldn't they?? Therefore be given less of a concession.

Not necessarily. Experience is a great teacher, as goes another oft-quoted axiom, and it may be more worthwhile in the grand scheme of things to have experienced more than just knowing it.

If that makes any twisted sense at all... ;)

William

Yes, in a way it does. Just by the fact that you know an answer to something doesn't necessarily mean you know all the answers to similar questions or understand something in more depth. But with age and experience you will... Or something along those lines..

But i still can't quite comprehend fully the scaling system they use. I actually haven't done the test yet, I taped it last night and am probably going to do it on Thurs. I have done internet I.Q tests and scored around 130, but I don't think I will acheive the same result with this one. Who knows!

"Smart" and "intelligent" are not one in the same.

Well I was more "intelligent" at 18. I was primed for my VCE and I barely learnt a thing at University. Sure I have the degree but I haven't used much of what I studied.

I don't think many get the point of the IQ test.

It is your potential for learning.

Therefore older people have a lower IQ because the know more and have had more lift experience therefore their potential for learning would be quite high because they already know a lot of things and life is more valuable.

I dont really know what I am talking about because I am starting to confuse myself, but I am just assuming here

Life experiences/skills etc make you intelligent, no VCE or Uni degree will ever compare - rote learning is the way to succeed in either of those institutions.

That isn't a vague reference to the flatulence thread is it masey!

Or are you trying to say that they have more chance of developing back problems, therefore we should give them greater concessions....;) :D :D
