Bumped Irish Experiment over?

The club has made no secret on the fact the FD spend cap has had a significant impact on things.
There is no real cap, we just have to pay a tax.

Unfortunately they've avoided paying the tax to an extent because of a supporter survey a few years ago who said "we don't want to put money in the coffers of other teams".

I was short sighted & voted for this too.

Now I say, pay the ****ing tax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hahah, think more pressing issues are causing that - as opposed to the FD cap.
It all adds up, our recruiting and drafting hadn't been great over the last 5 years, and it's been confirmed we have less eyes out there compared to other clubs, IMO this is one area you don't **** around with, we should be leaving no stone unturned.

I'm not keen on the international experiment myself, but I would very much prefer we continue to make use of the Cat B scheme with guys like Greenwood and Keith. IMO, guys that grew up with the game and chose another path in their mid to late teens and are open to transitioning offers more value.

For me it's not just the $ value in finding the recruit it's the cost of relocation, training and then development that is the deterrent. Take Cox for example the overall investment to this stage would probably be between $500k to a $1 million.

We should investigate & add talent to our list through all available avenues.
They are not mutually exclusive.
Cat B is an alternative that can add depth to our list.
Spend the $$, pay the tax & recruit the best possible talent spread.
We no longer use all 3 Cat B places.
We can add an Irish recruit, if we identify one...
The problem is...I don't even think we are looking anymore...(at Irish players)

Happy for the club to explore all Cat B rookie opportunities. It's 3x freebies and you never know when you'll find a gem.

Should have Maynard from Melbourne.....

More often than not those "players from other sports" rookies end up at clubs due to relationships so having a brother at the club should have worked in our favour. His old man does work at the Dee's though unless I'm mistaken and he's had a long relationship with the Dee's. Apparently we, along with the Crows, Saint's and Bumbers were also in the hunt.
