Woot! SA gyms back from next Monday. Not sure how the unstaffed hours at Zap are meant to go, as no one in at 5.30 - 6.30am when I'm there during the week. Still the benefit of living in a state that we've abided by the rules and that doesn't let infected Cruise ship passengers out or have idiot protesters in the centre of the capital doing their best to keep it going like Covidtoria.

Victoria has conducted over 430,000 test for a postive rate of 0.4 South Aus has conducted over 89,000 tests for a positive rate of 0.5

Not to mention the discrepancy in population sizes between the states. Well done to SA but its not like Victorian people have been flouting the rules any more or less than the next state.

My gym is tiny, I expect the 20 people rule will be reduced.
There are a lot of oldies working out when I go anyway, so they may avoid it being potentially immuno-compromised.

I have my doubts. I’m not the only person whose seeing that the ‘oldies’ are the worst at disregarding social distancing at shops and other public places. Teens/20 something’s almost as bad, but there’s the whole ‘I’m young and it’s not killing the young’ (mistaken) belief there. Oldies are just 🤪

The more I think about it the less I see it working. Especially for gyms like mine (24 hour) how do they police the 20 person limit/cleaning in the off hours and during the on hours how frustrating would it be for people to go down and be told to wait at the door in a queue like a nightclub.

I go to a 24 hour gym and the owner emailed all the members to say that after hours will not be in operation for a while upon re-opening, so that the staff can do the cleaning. They didn’t say how they were going to police the 20 person rule.

I assumed that might be the case, also the exact reason I go to my gym opposed to the many others that are around (I like working out later at night and with fewer people around).

I may not leave the gym only because I can afford to keep the membership and think we should support business if we could but I could see a lot of people cancelling memberships if they do it

This non 24 hour period sux

Are gyms re opened yet? My local has given us no indication at all?
22nd of June is when they can re open but with limits.
A lot of places are doing booking sessions and limiting what you can do

wonder if gym shall be charging patrons still whilst limiting sessions.
Why wouldn't they?
Whole model is built on over subscription and people not turning up anyway.

My local pool has a bulk pass option

10 pack and 20 pack, 5% discount on casual visit rate on the 10 pack, 10% discount on casual visit rate on the 20 pack

6 months to use both up

20 pack was working great for me until covid interrupted (used about 12-13 in around 4 months)

Hope gyms can offer similar

Been wondering for months now if they’ll open up the 24 hour as that’s when I usually train, still no idea.

Common sense says there’s rarely more than half a dozen people in after hours and it’s the most safe in regards to social distancing but I’m kinda assuming they’ll close it.

I’m in the same boat, except the manager has emailed us to say no after hours access initially at least.

I don't think after hours will be allowed, they won't be able to police numbers or cleaning of equipment, too much risk

In Vic it depends what dictator Dan decides.

I'm thinking gyms should limit sessions to an hour, that should help... A s**t load of people just hit the gym to socialise and sit on equipment for hours.

Mines having no 24 hour access initially and 2 hour slots that you can register for (subject to capacity). I imagine most will be along similar lines.
