Is Brodie Smith ready to play midfield?

It was funny to see Jaensch react when the North player gets suckered by the fake handball. As soon as that happened Jaenschy knew Smith was going to kick a goal.
Haha just saw that, great stuff

Here's the goal and you can see Jaenschy celebrate as soon as smith fakes the handball.

Hahaha, nice gif

Anyway....Smith is obviously ready to play midfield, the question is always is the team better with him in there or doing what he's doing?

Why move an AA level running half back away from this role?

At least if Hendo comes back we'll get a chance to see what he can do I guess.

Agreed. The guy is killing it where he is right now. No need to change it just because you can.

The logic NOT to move Smith into the midfield and leave him at half back could have been equally applied to Andrew McLeod in 1997.

not to blow my own trumpet but I already posted this in the other Brodie Smith thread. :p

People need to stop with the 97 comparisons. I'm sick of hearing about it. Smith isn't McLeod and football has changed since 97.

ha ha great goal love it. I also love Matty jaensches passion - football field not trousers. Check out his reaction to a walker goal from highlights of a few weeks ago.

I think he was just showing an example of what could happen if you move a gun HBF to midfield.

I wouldn't mind seeing smith getting some more midfield time, especially if hendo is fit and firing.

Brodie Smith was ready to play midfield last year so the answer is clearly yes. The good news is that if he starts getting his influence impeded by an opposition forward tagger, Sando has the option to throw him into the midfield. While we are still without Henderson or some other hard running creative half back flanker, I think you have to leave Brodie there for the sake of the team, although, I have doubts he'll be able to continue to get as much freedom to create now that opposition teams understand that you need to tag Brodie in order to impact Adelaide's game plan.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for moving Smith to the midfield because I think his speed and long kicking will help us in there. There's no need to use outdated examples to back this up.

Rotating through mid/wing/hbf would be the best as it allows him to break a defensive forward tag. Getting Hendo back fit is going to be a big piece of this. Also if he does get tagged then others needs to take up the slack.

Henderson to replace reilly, so i think smith will continue to play the same role
