As we see the ‘cancelled’ Louis CK about to embark on his comeback world tour, I thought it was worth a discussion on the future of comedy in this decidedly humourless era of cancel/call out culture, and intersectional, identity politics.
If Louis hasn’t “earnt” his comeback, and after there latest Netflix specials, Dave Chapelle and Bill Burr are also now seen as ‘problematic’ by the usual cast of characters (Guardian, Vice, Buzzfeed et al) where does that leave comedy?
It’s certainly in serious trouble if these sorts of people represent its “future”
Lily Singh
Hannah Gadsby
Where are we headed? Will ‘woke culture’ simply reach a critical point of mass stupidity and burn out?
Or are we destined to now live in the future world depicted in the movie Demolition Man?
