As we see the ‘cancelled’ Louis CK about to embark on his comeback world tour, I thought it was worth a discussion on the future of comedy in this decidedly humourless era of cancel/call out culture, and intersectional, identity politics.

If Louis hasn’t “earnt” his comeback, and after there latest Netflix specials, Dave Chapelle and Bill Burr are also now seen as ‘problematic’ by the usual cast of characters (Guardian, Vice, Buzzfeed et al) where does that leave comedy?

It’s certainly in serious trouble if these sorts of people represent its “future”

Lily Singh

Hannah Gadsby

Where are we headed? Will ‘woke culture’ simply reach a critical point of mass stupidity and burn out?

Or are we destined to now live in the future world depicted in the movie Demolition Man?

The left were jealous of normal people enjoying them self, so they decided to ruin comedy! But in the same time have become the new form of comedy they keeps getting better and better!

I guess they just need to up their game. If they feel victimised and oppressed by PC, then they probably just aren't that creative to begin with. A lot of men and women are humourless, and a lot of male and female comedy acts are one-trick ponies. Naturally, some are antiquated and generally regarded as distasteful nowadays. I'm sure blackface was funnier once upon a time than it is now. Context is key with much verbal comedy.

Louis C.K. is hilarious, but he was 'cancelled' for something beyond his profession. I'm confident he'll make a largely forgiven comeback anyway.

Not if Hannah ‘Self appointed gatekeeper of comedy’ Gadsby has her way he won’t

I think most people would agree that Louis is funnier than Hannah, but Hannah is funnier than most, as well as recognising that Hannah is the perfect villain for the right-wing so will get featured in a lot of coverage by them.

Yeah nah. Hannah is about as funny as a backyard abortion performed with a rusty coat hanger that’s been sterilised with a bottle of $29 dollar Roskov vodka from liquor land.

Op's post proves satire is still alive and well. You posted a bunch of comedians which clearly don't Align with your view and spouting comedy is dead.

Comedians have been smashed harder and will be smashed harder then chapelle saying edgy shit.

Comedy might die, but videos where the creator interject every 2 seconds to deliver some oh so cutting repartee won't.

Seriously though, the joke will wear thin. She'll have to become more radical to maintain interest.

I also get the impression that many women comics default to jokes about their vagina or so on. Someone is probably writing a thesis on how it's an indictment on the audience that a female comic's jokes about their own ladybits are their best form of currency.

The great man said it better than any one of us can ever hope too.

What makes good comedy these days? I can think of three off the top of my head.
Donald trump as POTUS.
Boris Johnson as British PM.
SCOMO as Prime Minister of Oz.

You should go write jokes for the ABC with top shelf material like that.

You lost me when you said Hannah was funnier!

In business and professional life, always pretend to be a Leftie.

The conservatives will still do business with you, as long as you deliver results.

The Left will actively try and destroy you if you are seen as an 'enemy.'

If you can't beat'em, invoice'em.

Ignore the above if you run the KKK or a Nazi gift shop.

If you're ok with getting pretty dirty it's pretty easy to get a laugh as a woman in comedy.

Vagina jokes, I’m an alcoholic jokes. I’m sexually promiscuous jokes. Period Jokes. I cant find a man jokes.
Pretty much the range of material for 95% of working female comics I’m afraid.

Since when does it matter what the likes of the Guardian etc think about comedy? Frankly it is of no relevance.
