Is Steve Coniglio gettable? After being named Captain and then being dropped last week, does anyone think he may be a little more open to a move west? Before people say he is a former Wiggles supporter etc etc, money talks and the Wiggs would struggle to fit him in ,salary wise and picks.
I absolutely think he is worth an enquiry during trade time. Fire at will!🥊

I'd love him at the club, but I don't think he'll walk after 1 season in charge as captain.

Isn't his contract huge, like 6 more years for 6 million or along those lines?

He'll stay at GWS, but another poor season from them will have players walking, he might be gettable then.

No offence but trading in conoglio would be up there with the worst decisions made by Schwab in the dark days of freo trade blunders.
1. He’d cost 2 first rounders at least. Pick 12 this year plus our 2021 first rounder. Possible even more actually.
2. We’d have to pay him $1million a year for the next 6 years.
3. This would them mean we’d definitely lose at least one of the likes of Cerra, Serong, Young etc, within a couple of years of the salary cap due to not being able to pay them what they are worth.
4. He’s not even that good. For that price I’d expect a multiple AA winner, almost a generational talent. He will never win an AA I don’t think.
5. Who would you leave out of our current team in the midfield to fit him in?
6. He’s a massive eagles fan
7. We wouldn’t get a chance to draft a first round pick till 2022, an area of list management where we have become absolutely ELITE since the 2016 draft.

Is that enough reasons for you?

1 and 2 are not compatible. If he was gettable, his contract is an albatross and you'd pay no where near that in draft picks. IF he was actually gettable, it would be something resembling a salary dump and you'd pay close to nothing IMO

Not sure I agree with you here. If your scenario were true, it’s actually some of the worst list management of all time by GWS.
Why would he leave GWS to play for freo for $500k (or whatever) per year anyway?
Anyway I’m not sure which is worse - having a good but not great player on a contract similar to Fyfe for the next 6 years or losing 2 first rounders. Both are awful.

You're thinking like a supporter of a team that doesnt have more talent on its list that has ever been assembled. GWS as much as anyone value salary cap space. They could replace Coniglio and not blink twice for the talent on their list. Green, Caldwell, Hately. Any of them (Green in particular) could replace what Coniglio gives.

What they cant do is deal with $6m of capspace currently being eaten by a guy putting out about $3m worth of value (if that)

I agree that the only way he is a possibility is if GWS are trying to offload him to free up salary cap space to keep other players. That would be a token gesture pick, but still respectful - like a second round pick, or a swap of firsts next season or both.

But we should only do it if we can extend his deal and give him more money, but at a less per year.

As others have said the big question for me wouldn't be so much, could we get him (and I think he'll want to stay at GWS and prove himself) but could we get value?

And I don't think we could or at least it wouldn't be easy, too big of an outlay with too high a bar to be successful and a real danger Freo doesn't break even.

Edit: For a second round pick or a swap of firsts... yes we should do it. Can't see that being the price though.

Him and O’Meara made a pact before they were drafted that they would spend time interstate and then come back together to WA and play for West Coast (this was on the Dyl and Friends podcast)

“Initially I think, before we got drafted, he had a pretty good indication that he was going to Gold Coast and I was going to the Giants,” Coniglio said.

“So it was like, ‘Let’s play for a couple of years and then we’ll meet up together one day back in Perth, playing for West Coast’

Both won’t get a game at Fremantle under JLo.

No. They won't offload their captain who they fought to sign last year.

Will stay at the giants collecting his massive pay packet

They have enough out the door already. But this business of dropping him and not dropping Cameron I find bemusing. Cameron had a good game alongside Riccardi against us but in general has been bog ordinary this year. Coniglio average but better than Cameron and also better than many others.

Don’t know about this Coniglio to West Coast business. If that was on the cards for the twilight of his career then why sign a 7 year contract. He’ll be like 33/34 years old at the end of that contract. Sounds like BS to me.

I'm not sure if 'gettable' is the situation, but something is clearly not right with him at GWS. If anyone has the tools to make it as one of the premier two-way mids in the AFL, it's Coniglio. The fact two weeks ago he wasn't viewed as even one of the best mids at his club is alarming.

If ever there was a year for Freo to trade it's first-rounder - this is it.

for Freo...
Pick 8 has moved to pick 12. That's not a golden pick, and not representative of the season we had. We genuinely struggled at times this year, particularly early.
Limited mids in the draft with genuine speed and class, particularly around pick 12 (our major need)
Less certainly in the draft range due to COVID interruptions and limited exposure.
Mundy is 76 years old and getting better, but how long can it go on?

for GWS...
Jeremy Cameron wanting a huge payday. Freeing up the cap space from moving on Coniglio would make this doable.
Your Captain and million-dollar man playing in the magoos is not a great look.
Leon Cameron clearly not getting the best out of Coniglio (and others).
The Ferrari won't be playing finals this year. For the list they have and draft concessions given, that's just not acceptable. I'd be disgruntled.

for Coniglio...
a chance to go home
a team on the rise and probably over-achieved this year rather than under-achieved
keeps his healthy salary
plays alongside a dual Brownlow medalist
chance to be a part of history

I don't think he'll leave the Giants, but if you consider all of the above, I won't fall off my chair if he does.

People calling him a spud need their head read.

If He was a free Agent this season, we would of had a small chance to get him. He was a free agent in 2019 as he did his 8 seasons but is he worth that 1 million a year?

You pay 1 million a year for Fyfe, Martin and Dangerfield and GAJ (when he was in his prime years of 25-30 years old). All 4 of them at one point have been key players at their clubs and got mutiple AA shirts and a brownlow each.

This is exactly it. No one is saying he’s a spud. But there is just no way he’s worth a million a season for 6 years. That is for the Fyfe, Dusty, Buddy, Danger, Ablett level players.
I can name 25 or 30 players in the AFL straight away off the top of my head better than conoglio. He is a quality player. But just not in the very top league of players that’s all. As I said earlier I don’t see him winning an AA in his career.
