If Sloane (or anyone else at other times) tried to tackle him any lower he'd jump and get a free for 'legged'. Compare the height of his head with the fence here:

He's head and shoulders above the next guy.Selwood gets that every week, hes miles ahead of the next guy for frees over his career i bet
See's Sloane coming, drops the shoulder immediately and leans into the tackle. He has perfected the technique. If Sloane (or anyone else at other times) tried to tackle him any lower he'd jump and get a free for 'legged'. Compare the height of his head with the fence here:

Nah he'll try to force the contact with the pole and his neck.Make a bloody awesome limbo player.
Sloane was the only one to duck todaySomething needs to be done over preseason. It's a joke right now the high free kicks he gets.
So when he plays on. He is staging for the free. Give me a fuvkin breakApparently, according to commentators, it is courageous for Selwood to lift his arms and force a high tackle, or to lower his centre of gravity with the intention of getting a free kick.
It is no different than what soccer players do, and we all laugh at soccer players staging.
Sloan doesIs there anyone that actually thinks that should be a free kick?
Anyone???
Yeah that will workJust accept you're going to give the free away but make him earn it. Go in hard enough to make him think twice about doing it next time.
You don't need to be breaking a rule for play on to be called. What rule is he breaking exactly to cause all these sweet delicious tears?

So it's okay for the tackler to perfect his technique, but the player with the ball shouldn't be allowed to perfect his technique to overcome this. It's up to the tackler to get it right. This is not right.
If you tackle lower it just allows the player to easily release a handball.
You are taught to pin the arms, thus preventing the player from getting a handball away.
Tackler needs to change his method then. The tackler aims at the bicep, then the player (notorious ducker) angles his frame instead of extending upright after gathering possession into the tackling opponent. Nor does he ever attempt to avoid the tackler
Tackler needs to change his method then.
Better than a free kick, isn't it?And let the handball out?
Nah, that's crap. Ask yourself what Selwood's intention really is. And if you can't admit that he is playing for the free, which is not in the spirit of the game, then you are either a Geelong supporter, an Eagles supporter (Eagles fans will defend him as they have Schuey), his mum or his boyfriend. So it's okay for the tackler to perfect his technique, but the player with the ball shouldn't be allowed to perfect his technique to overcome this. It's up to the tackler to get it right.
Spot on. And you could say the same for Schuey. That free kick against Port in front of goals wasn't a one off. He has an awareness for it and positions the body well as the tackle is placed. The rest just plays out like a beautiful waltz.See's Sloane coming, drops the shoulder immediately and leans into the tackle. He has perfected the technique.
I'm far from Selwood's biggest fan, I've made a thread about his BS before.
This thread is just completely strange though. If my team was killing the opposition in a prelim the last thing I'd be thinking about is Selwood's ducking.
Remiscent of the crowd on TV carrying on despite being up big.
Selwood did nothing wrong when tackled by Sloane. He has simply used the method he had perfected to avoid having his arms pinned and the tacklers have not changed their approach to tackling him. The onus is on the tackler to get it right. If the alternative means the handball gets out, then they have come up with some means of effectively laying a tackle. And let the handball out?
I think we're already seeing the next wave of players trying this technique.Spot on. And you could say the same for Schuey. That free kick against Port in front of goals wasn't a one off. He has an awareness for it and positions the body well as the tackle is placed. The rest just plays out like a beautiful waltz.
For all those defending the Selwood Slip and the Scheuy Shrug, imagine a game where every AFL footballer has perfected the technique. Every tackle that is placed results in a free kick. What an unbearable game it would be to watch.
Sorry to disappoint you, but I am none of the above. But nice dig at the Eagles there, bitter Freo supporters just can't help themselves when it comes to the Eagles, even when the topic nothing to do with the them.Nah, that's crap. Ask yourself what Selwood's intention really is. And if you can't admit that he is playing for the free, which is not in the spirit of the game, then you are either a Geelong supporter, an Eagles supporter (Eagles fans will defend him as they have Schuey), his mum or his boyfriend.
Unfortunately the guy is heralded a hero amongst the media so he will have to retire before the AFL finally step in and police it properly.
