Jayden Pitt, has his detractors but this kid is going to be something special. Tonight was another step towards proving some idiots around these parts wrong... Jack darling couldn't dream of having some of the skills that Pitt has. Good work there jayden!

Nice, i'll have to watch the game when it becomes available tomorrow morning on the AFL website. :) But, wasn't it you that recently questioned whether he'd amount ot anything? Or am I getting my wires crossed again?

Wires crossed. I have been one of his biggest advocates

Not unusual for a few of the more clueless fools on this board to prematurely write kids off. I rate him too.

Agreed, Pitts feet are deadly, Darlings are... just big. Still a way to go though. What was it Lyon said about Neale, in the post match presser?..."A swallow doesnt make a supper"... I think that was it, anyway I'll be tempering my expectations, if we have as many stars as it looks like we are going to have we will have real issues with salary cap. Unless Lyon creates a dynasty where Brownlow medalists and B&F's play for peanuts because they enjoy wiping the floor with the sodden and broken faces of the opposition...what was I saying about tempered expectations?

When he was drafted most of the experts had problems placing him due to his skills but lack of size and mongrel. I think that's where he still sits, has shown that he could go onto very good things but is definitely assisted by having the likes of McPhee and Deboer in the team.

He looks good doesn't he. Most of the debate about him has been about his selection in preference to darling, and the time-frame he would need to really start to have an impact. Seems to be doing enough at the moment to suggest he will get 10 or so games this year. If he gets some confidence up then who knows.

I think you can say that about most kids that get drafted and their position is midfield/wing so not sure why we expect something different for a 70kg kid.

The bar was set high by hill and fyfe, but People need to understand that those two are freaks. Not all can be like that, pitt will be a very very good player but expectations should be tempered at this early stage

I'm not sure how many people have been thinking he was a terrible selection. More that we could have maybe found more use for Darling. And most realise the jury is still out on both. Too early to tell.

Any proclamation of Pitt as something special is just as silly and premature as saying he will be a dud.

Good to see him getting in the right spot at the right time for a few goals, but he still has a long way to go.

What Alfonz said. Darling would have been bloody useful last year when we had a non-existent forward line. Jury is still out on both players, no willing to make a call yet.

Would Darling have made a huge difference in a team without structure, game plan?
The extra 25 goals a year last season, may have put Freo in the eight, and Harvey would be coaching this year.
This would of only been a patch job on a flawed foundation, our squad has some serious young talent, off the field was where we were lacking, pre-season failure with too many injuries.
Darling is a man child, and was always ready to play straight up, Freo are building a midfield rotation equal to the best, and where we have been lacking depth for years.

I think i've solved it, Dennis? Is that you? :D

Darling is a fine player. No need to put him down because one of your players got 9 disposals in a preseason game vs Richmond.

Perfect summation.

You obviously don't understand BigFooty. As player B was available when player A was selected in the draft everything he does is forever measured against player A.

If Pitt plays 150 useful games but Darling plays 151 our selectors will be forever reamed out by rabid hindsight.

I'd say the thread is more in reaction to the weagle stooges who bagged the shit out of Pitt last year, while proclaiming Darling was the next Jonothan Brown.

Nothing more.

Take your snide remarks elsewhere

Agree, but having said that, the Pitt v Darling debate isn't just about 'number of good games', it's about needs as well. The argument goes that we need a powerful marking, long kicking fwd/half-fwd who we can develop for the long hall more than we need a skilled utility-midfielder like Pitt. I don't agree with that myself, but just putting it out there.

I'm in the "jury is still out" camp, but I do like skilled players like Pitt and I'm not unhappy with the call the club made last year.

Very good post. :thumbsu:

I do enjoy KPR's enthusiasm of Pitt but IMO he hasn't done much at AFL level yet to suggest he will an out and out star but he's only played one year. Not sure if Freo posters would rate what he has done very highly if he was playing for another team and I doubt any teams that had draft picks above us in his draft yr are up upset that they didn't take him. Although I don't care for the Darling vs Pitt argument, Darling is winning that one by a long way atm but who really cares whats done is done and we now need to develop Pitt into a quality AFL player.

To me he hasn't really been able to stamp his name on any one position yet and interested to know where people think his best position is?

I originally thought he was a HBF but our backline is our strength these days and don't think he in our best 8 defenders. He would surely be earmarked to slot into the midfield rotations at some stage but atm due to his lack of size and contested ball winning ability atm I wouldn't really have him in there yet as he would get quite exposed. Last night he showed he can kick some goals which is great and our forward line is our weakest area so if continue to show this sort of form then hopefully he can force his way into the side here but I do feel at best he is borderline best 22 and probably needs to continue with good form in the NAB cup or perform in the WAFL to break into the side. But like I said I don't think he has locked down a position yet.

One things for sure is that the coaching staff are going to back him and he has plenty of time to prove himself so hopefully by the end of the year I will be more convinced of his abilities as an AFL player.
