Yes, it's just been confirmed on SEN that Lenny Hayes will be having a knee reconstruction and is out for the season. Dennis Pagan recently said that he is the second most important mid-fielder in footy to Chris Judd, and the reigning best and fairest winner too. Huge loss for the Saints.

Very very dissapointing news. Amazing that he did it then went to the bench and then came back on. His courage is inspiring. Hopefully the players can use this to drive them forward this year.

Hayes out for season

St Kilda star Lenny Hayes will miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament during Sunday's match against the Kangaroos at Telstra Dome.

Hayes left the field during the third quarter after copping a knock to the knee but it appeared to be only a minor injury given he was able to return to the field and complete the match.

The former skipper was below his best however in finishing with just 11 touches in the Saints' 17 point win but there was no mention of him even being injured by the club post-match.

However when the Saints' published their injury list on Monday afternoon, Hayes was listed as being out for the season because of an 'ACL reconstruction'.

Hayes and coach Grant Thomas will speak to the media about the shock injury later this afternoon.

Bad luck lads... :(

tragic news for Lenny. One of my favourite players to watch. And one of the best performers in my dream team. Terrible news for the saints as well, with Ball below his best may really impact on their ability to win a flag this year.

Who will step up in the saints mid field to fill the hole Hayes's injury will create. L Fisher? McGough? Fiora?

Terrible news and luck for the Sainters. I thought Baker was the reigning B&F at St Kilda?

Bad luck Sainters. Hayes is one of my favourite players outside of Collingwood and was the best player in my dream team. Damn, i liked watching him play. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Goes without saying this is a massive loss. Hopefully L Fisher can spend some time in there, as well as Jason Gram, and we can use a few others to dip in at times and give us the combined contribution Lenny does.

Surely Mark McGough's time has definitely come. He should get a decent run at it now and we'll find out what he can really do.

Good luck Lenny, and hi everyone, by the way, I'm new! :)

This is terrible luck for St Kilda. I rate Hayes as one of the top 10 players in the league and he was my smokey for the Brownlow at the start of the year. Plays the game hard but fair and it will be a loss to anybody who likes watching footy.

I have heard that it is not as bad an inury as it could have been (normally 12 months) and that he will probably be right for round 1 next year. Here's hoping:thumbsu:

Devastating loss.

With Lenny out for the season and Kosi, Hamill and X out for at least another 6 weeks it's going to take a lot of character to get ourselves out of this miss.

I wish I could be more positive. :(

OMG!! I just got to know about this devastating bad new after reading this thread. ARGH.... I can't believe it. Not only he is my favourite player, but he was being by all means (and according to our own votes also) the B&F for the Saints this season without doubt.

I can't even understand how come he could keep playing in the second half with such an injury. I am touched and I also feel our options to advance to the GF this year are really bad right now.

I hope Lenny has a decent recovery and can be back offering us great footy moments next season.
