Jack Ziebell, Shinedown
188cm, in and under the packs, clearance player, beautiful kick on both feet, brilliant hands and can kick plenty of goals. He can play from full foward, wing. the centre and back. :thumbsu:

He'd certainly be a welcome addition to the club, that's for sure.

Having said that, right now I'm leaning towards a preference of taking Hartlett with our first pick. We need pace through the middle and Hartlett provides that.

Basically, we can't go wrong with pick 6 as I would say it is highly likely we will end up with 1 of Hartlett or Ziebell.

Both are goal kicking midfielders so i agree with you we cant lose

Essentially, I see it as a choice between pace and toughness.

Both are able to kick goals, have great skills and can find the footy.

Hartlett is much smaller than Ziebell, and doesn't have the type of body that is necessarily suited to the rough stuff.

Ziebell doesn't have much pace but knows where to go on the field.

I'll be wrapt if we end up with either of these boys on draft day. But as I said, I'm leaning towards Hartlett at the minute - but this will no doubt change many a time before draft day.

Yeh from what I've seen of Ziebell he looks a very likely type. Though if Hurley was still around at pick 6, I can't see us passing up on him as finding young key backs are like gold these days.

With Ziebell, our midfield in 3 or so years would like like, Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Ziebell, Walker.
Or how about Jamison, Hurley,Bower,Waite, Austin, Armfield as backs :thumbsu:
Too hard to choose :)

After reading about Ziebell here, I took a look at the Vic Country v Tasmania game from the carnival this year, one of 3 games that I had saved on my IQ2 so I could take a look at whoever we took in the draft.

Have only watched the first half and Ziebell did very little. Having said that, he looks tall and probably plays tall from what I can see. I could see him pinch hitting in a key position at times.

That was a poor game for him, he began to get himmself back into it towards the end. I wont forget him running and tacking a great pack mark and playing on then spearing it perfectly on the left to the Vic Counrty foward.

IIRC, Ziebell was under an injury cloud during the carnival, and hence his output was limited. Going out to Visy Park tomorrow to watch the TAC Prelims, so i'd like to see him play at his peak.
Keep us posted

I'm on the hurley bandwagon .. If he's available, I have no doubt we'll pick him (Hurley)

I trust that you'll be giving us an in-depth report after the games tomorrow...

I pretty sure he was HBF. He missed the first few games for Vic Country in the carnvial because of an injury.

Same here HBF, i'm heading down to Visy Park again tomorrow also, should be a good couple of games. Any word on whether Jordan Lisle will be playing? I know he's named but would be in some doubt surely.

Meh, right now it's an outright lottery ...
Can someone tellme why we should take the z-man ahead of Hurley (if both are available)
I am of the opinion we should always take the best talent available, not the player who best suits our needs ?

This was my report on him last week against the Eastern Rangers if anyone missed it.

Ziebell played mostly out of the goal square today but pushed into the middle a bit more in the second half. Was his aggressive self, so strong in a marking contest and kicked 3 goals with 4 behinds in blustery conditions. One goal, he took an out stretched mark on about 60 on 45 degree angle, played on, took on one player and slotted it from 50 (on a 45 degree angle), very tough kick considering the blustery conditions. Was at the centre bounce around 7-8 times and won 4 centre clearances. He broke open a few packs to drive the ball forward just like on one of the youtube clips. Also hardly fumbled today, he'd reach down a clutch it in both hands even running at pace, also stood up in tackles then would dish of an effective handball, impressive stuff. He was run down and got caught for holding the ball a few times because he was trying to do to much though. It's going to be very interesting to see what time he produces for 20m because he can produce a burst of speed unlike what some people say. Pretty good game but i've seen him produce better performances, took two contested marks IIRC and a few on the lead low down. Needs to work on his endurance for mine.

Hes the kind of guy who can win his own ball move it on qiuckly with class and precision.

yeah that is true, but honestly, I think we need to look for more KPP players (even if they take longer to develop) our mid-field depth is pretty good right now ... Regardless I just hope we keep pick no 6 anyway unless we trade it for Daniel Kerr ...

I can't make a comment about Ziebell or Hartlett have not seen them play, no doubt they will be good players, but Carlton are in urgent of CHF and CHB and another eddie betts type of player. I hope Carlton draft the best KPP player available in the draft at pick 6 and 24 and with pick 40 if his still there Neville Jetta.

if you are after another eddie type player there is a kid playing for Port Melbourne by the name of Robin Nahas, kid has great skills, awesome burners and has scored 40+ goals for port, would love him on our list,

also there is a kid playing or was playing for the now defunct Tassie VFL team, Tom Langford good HFF player great strength, skills and a good footy brain.

would love to have both those boys on your list come 09.

Played against him for years in junior footy. Very talented and a good bloke as well.

The only problem with taking a key position player is that there won't be a qaulity one at our pick unless the bombers pass on Hurley. So i say take the best available and get KPP with our later picks.

I've heard that Hurley is slow and is not a penatrating kick.
If we were to bypass the midfielder type for a key position player maybe Johnston will be better than Hurley. Can kick a mile, reasonably quick for his size and is a true CHF. Strong Mark and moves around a lot. Maybe he is not as far forward at this stage of his career than Hurley, but seems to have more potential!!

Adam Hartlett can kick a mile. These bios worry me.

Yeh was a freak junior and i've heard he's been pretty good down at Port.

Maybe rookie draft him?
