The forward line is stacked tonight so Josh could at times be the FOURTH string forward.

Would a below par game from him mean that his papers were stamped?

Considering the forecast conditions tonight is he on a hiding to nothing anyway?

I think we all just want to see some urgency, desperation, and physicality which has been lacking in previous outings.

Its probably his last chance to ever get a spot in the forward line (not I believe he will ever get one due to the talent we already have there).

He's still contracted for next season. I'm surprised the move down back hasn't been initiated yet when Bev has been hugely successful with a couple of other switches like Dale back, Naughton forward etc.

Let’s first see if the same 22 line up as were named on Thursday. He might just be a 1-for-1 replacement.

It wouldn’t make a huge difference though even if he was a straight swap for Bruce or Naughton. He really needs to have at least a 2 goal game if he plays KPF. Or be influential in other ways (GAs CMs etc). He won’t get many more chances this season.

As for his long term career, unless he suddenly performed brilliantly (unlikely) or there was an offer too good to refuse (also unlikely) I’d be saying to him in the off season that he doesn’t have a future with us as a forward but we’re prepared in 2022 to see what he can do as a defender, starting in the VFL. Take it, or play out the season as a forward in the VFL anyway.

Think this will be his last chance. The only standout game I can remember from him was that early 2019 game against the Hawks where we came back from like 30 points down in the last quarter. He kicked 4 or 5 that day from memory.
Did he play in that GWS elimination final?

No, he's contracted for 2022. Even Trengove got another game in 2020 despite his papers appearing stamped due to non-selection early in the season. I figured it'd be difficult for him to get back in the side once we recruited Bruce, and after being dropped in 2020 it really did look like he was done. Yet here we are, with him being called up for the second time this season, even squeezing him into a game where we're essentially now playing 5 key forwards (although English is technically our ruck). Never say never so long as he's on our list - he could spud it up today and I can still see him being given another chance in 2022 off the back of strong VFL form.

I still remember Schache's 2nd ever game for the Lions where as a skinny teenager he took 5 contested marks on Robbie Tarrant in a losing team.

I think he's a shattered confidence player. He can play but I suspect we'll never see it.

I remember one of his best games for the club was against Port in the rain. Kicked 3 and took some big contested marks. Five minute mark of The video is a cracking mark.

Yep I remember that game he and Roarke both played well. Maybe he's a wet-tracker? 😉

I don't see why it would be. He's cheap depth in a team that has almost no developing talls of proven quality who aren't currently in the side.

At worst for the next twelve moths or so, he will continue to help Footscray win games. Something that speeds up the careers of younger guys pushing themselves toward senior selection.

Well, Keath out with hammy and Schache is playing key defence for us for the next 3 weeks at least.

This is his shot, there is a spot screaming for a competent defender, he just has to claim it, and he is playing finals.

Hopefully it’s the making of him. I’d completely written Schache off, would make me infinitely happy if his potential was fulfilled.

Happy he's doing well to half time. He's doing some things from a physical point of view I didn't think he had in him.

His dance card must be all full by now after tonight's performance. Well done, young man.

(Ask your grandmothers what a dance card is. ;) )

Well Roughy ain't quick and he's a solid, dependable best 22 KPD.
Schache doesn't have acceleration but he has endurance and field kicking. Fingers crossed for the kid because if he makes it as a KPD it solves two list management problems for us.

He did very well in defence but still lacking that physical side that’s missing in his forward craft. A few times tonight he could’ve spoiled the ball but looked too scared to fall low and smother.

This is in contrast to Bruce, English and Naughton who will throw their bodies at anything despite their size and how hard they can fall. Fingers crossed he puts it together with Keith out.
