is vickery really worth pick 8?

I hope Carlton get Vickery. good Midfielders are easier to get than good Talls. Vickery looks very impressive in the video footage doing the rounds.

I work with an assistant coach from Putt's tac cup side and he reckons Putt was pretty ordinary as a ruckman but a gun key forward - perhaps the club is hoping he will develop into a ruckman but also developing him as a forward. didn't he play up forward a bit this year for the burgers seconds?

Also - if Carlton do take Vickery they could be onto something. With Kruez could be the most versatile and one of the greatest ruck combinations ever.

Tom Swift is 10cm shorter and can jump higher!
I would like us to take best vailable mid and draft a ruck with our 2nd round

Correct me if am mistaken, but vertical leap is measured as the distance between your reach and how high you jump. Smaller players should be doing better at this test generally I would have thought?

Unfortunately Brisbane might want to get Sidebottom with pick 7.

We can only hope.

I am not a big fan simply because I watched the same GF that everyone else is excited about and was not overly impressed.

The defense played on him was appaling. As such, perhaps only a two of the goals he kicked would translate to AFL level and that was given he had probably the bigest purple patch of his career.

He has a lot of run but is not overly fast. He has reasonable but not outstanding skills. He reads the play well. I suspect he gets a lot of his kicks at juniour level due to his great fitness and determination.

I do think he will be a good afl player...but to take a mid at our pick we need someone special. Sidebottom will be an average afl player at best I think.

I guess all I am saying is if we took him I would hope they base it on all his games leading up to the GF and not the GF at all.

Now come on, flame away. I do want to know what I missed that you all saw.

I dont think he's worth taking at 8.....he's a great player and i was very impressed with him in the carnival but i think best avaliable mid is what we should target at 8, hopfully and Zielbell or Sidebottom.

Vickery will be a good player but i think we will get a quality tall in our later rounds! there is always a decent slider!, (Swallow,Connors)

I think people under-rate our tall stocks, ive got alot of time for players like Gourdis, Hughes, Putt, Graham......Putt will be better than Vickery IMO, He was drafted as a power forward according to the club and at over 200cm he is a more than capable 2nd ruckman with big Gus as our No1 in 2 years time when Simmo is more of a Forward than a ruckman.

i rate the mids in this order after rich is obviously taken in top 3 or 4:

ziebell
hartlett
sidebottom

if they are gone then get vickery.

Yeah and since when did the club have any ****ing idea about list management? So many **** ups and stupid short sighted decisions. Graham was pathetic this year. In the elimination final for Coburg he was getting outmarked by small defenders. Bonofide dud.
