Take the inside of any long curves. Crossing the street for short curves defeats the purpose. Especially if there is another opposite curve right up ahead

What do you mean by "wrong side of the road." I'm curious. Over here there's a rule (possibly a law?) which states one must walk 'with traffic.' That is to say with the traffic to your back.

Walking with traffic is ridiculous. Do they honestly believe that if I'm walking 3mph (4.8kph) and am struck from behind by a vehicle traveling at 65mph (104.6kph) that by walking with traffic, I might reduce the severity of my injuries due to the factor of shaving my 3mph forward momentum off of the overall impact energy? Also, aren't I more likely to be struck by a vehicle I can't see because it's coming up from behind?

I always walk against traffic. I'll take my chances with the added 3mph of impact energy.

The bottom line, Norm, is that you won't be doing yourself any favors unless you're walking to someplace where you would actually like to be.

There's a few reasons for walking with traffic, the most obvious being that you approach intersections on the correct side of the road.

Not as obvious as the fact that the only definition of the correct side of the road is the side where the beer is on. Other than that, there is no such thing as a correct side of the road.

What are the other few reasons?

What do you think about my 'being able to see the car that hits me' theory and my 'reduced velocity while struck by a car' theory?

Are the other few reasons better than those?

It's good, but the onus is on traffic to avoid the pedestrian as the overtaker.

When I say correct, I just mean on the same side as the rest of the traffic. It makes it easier for other traffic at the intersection to see you if they only have to look to one side of the road for all other approaching traffic.

Plus, if you're on the 'other' side of the road you're blind to approaching traffic. Walking against traffic towards an intersection is kind of an invitation for a car to swing around the corner and hit you before they spot you.

I never trust my anus to someone else's onus. I don't want the cars in the lane closest to me to be behind me. If they are swerving over to hit me, I want to see it and have a chance to use ninja-like evasion skills.

Also, and maybe to put us on the same page, I'm not talking about walking in the street. I'm talking about being on the sidewalk, on the shoulder, or off to the side in the grass whichever. Even in those areas, a pedestrian is not safe. Believe me. It's my job to shovel them up post gore.

Nah, I'll stick with my theory.

Not only have you answered my question, you've provided me with a generous philosophical insight.

I guess we're all heading towards the same destination, regardless of which side of the road we walk on.

Thank you and God Bless.

Oh, and good will to all men.

I walk on whatever path I'm less likely to encounter people on.

Sick of seeing someone 20 seconds away and deciding mid walk to either say hi, nod or completely ignore them.

Plus it gives me time to adjust the massive knife I carry into a position less visible to the average joe.
