Those that don’t follow Essendon would hate to admit it, but the Bombers are probably the greatest club in the AFL. Like Carlton, they have won 16 flags and some of the greatest players in the history of the game – Albert Thurgood, **** Reynolds and John Coleman – to name just three, have worn the red and black. The Bombers enjoyed a marvelous era from 1946-1951 when they made the grand final every years and won three flags. They haven’t been far off the mark since then and since 1981 have been one of the most dynamic and popular clubs in the competition under the shrewd leadership and brilliant marketing nous of coach Kevin Sheedy. The Bombers won the 2000 flag, losing just one match in the process. The Bombers left Windy Hill for the MCG in 1992 and moved to Colonial Stadium (now Telstra Dome) for home games in 2000.
