stay in Serie A now they have let at least 4 top players go.

Can someone tell me have Inter been awarded titles won by Juventus over the match fixing period yet ? if not will they ?

And it continues...

Juventus' demotion to Serie B will stand but Lazio and Fiorentina are to start the new season in Serie A, the Italian federal court appeals tribunal announced on Tuesday evening.

After three days' debate and one day of conferring, the federal court's president Piero Sandulli announced verdicts that have seen Juve, Lazio, Fiorentina and Milan all handed reduced punishments for match-fixing.

The sanctions still did not find favour with the Bianconeri, however, whose president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli claimed Juve were 'paying for everyone', with the club now determined to take their appeal to the civil courts, if necesary.

The club had originally been handed a 30-point Serie B deduction for the forthcoming campaign - that has now been reduced to a 17-point penalty but the deposed champions' relegation stands.

"We are penalised in an unacceptable way," Gigli told Rai tv. "The difference between us and the other teams is incredible - we don't want to pay for everyone.

"We can't accept this situation. We will go to the Italian Olympic Committee Arbitration Court and if we don't get a good answer there, then we will appeal also to civil law.

"We want to stay in Serie A."

Juve have been stripped of their 2005 title, while last season's trophy will not be assigned.

The Old Lady's relegation means Messina will be promoted from the second tier of Italian football, where they were due to start the next campaign after finishing 18th in Serie A last season.

Lazio and Fiorentina, meanwhile, have been allowed to remain in Serie A, but will start with 11 and 19 point deductions respectively - the retention of the pair's status confirms Lecce and Treviso's relegation to Serie B.

Milan have been allowed to compete in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers in the forthcoming campaign, although the Rossoneri start with an eight-point top flight handicap.

Sandulli confirmed that Lazio, Fiorentina and Milan have all been docked 30 points from their league total for season 2005/06.

Fiorentina boss Diego Della Valle has indicated that they will also appeal the decision, despite their reprieve. Milan have expressed their delight with the decisions but have not ruled out further litigation.

This is no where near over...

it's pretty pathetic that even when the Italian FA tries to stamp out corruption, the guilty teams can still get off with lightly...No doubt Juventus will appeal again and get their sentence reduced further.

By appealing they risk having their sentences increased. But justice obviously will not come into it, and they will all probably get off scot free.

Absolutely pathetic. Italian football has very little moral credibility at all.

Initial sentences were ok i thought, if not a little lenient. Jeez imagine if the AFL ran serieA, going on what carlton got, juventus would be in their third or fourth division with 30points deducted for the next 10 years.

Finally a bit of common sense - this whole Calciopoli mess is just that, a mess.

There is simply no evidence - how a trial like this can be run in two weeks is a joke. Amazing how an ex board member of Inter happens to find all the major clubs except his beloved Inter (and Roma) somehow guilty, when there is no evidence for at least 3 of them. Dont be suprised if the clubs further appeal to the real courts.

Juve is in the most trouble, but even after reading through a stack of articles, even most of that evidence is pretty ordinary.

Milan has been found guilty of complaining about a linesman (who made a bad call and cost Milan a game against Chievo) after the fact. If that is match fixing we may as well shut down every club in the world.

Milan, Fiorentina and Lazio should be totally let off. No evidence whatsoever.

this sorta stuff needs a 12 month trial, at least. And if you did a 12 month trial into, ah, lets say shonky dealings in la liga with certain clubs, im sure something would be uncoverd.

I think if AC are allowed to stay in the top flight so should the other three you have to punish all teams equally.

Hope Juve gets sent back to Serie C after their next appeal and in the negative points enough so they can't qualify to serie b in the next season. Hopefully Fiorentina and Lazio go down to serie b and milan gets thrown out of the cl.

What a ridiculous comment.

They werent even charged with the same things...

No suprise that some of the clubs were reduced. And now Juve will appeal and be promoted back to Serie A. At least they tried to hand out punishments.

Juve won't be let back into Serie A - even their defence lawyer said relegation was an acceptable penalty. They will try to get this points deduction wiped, although I think they'll still go straight back up even starting on minus 17.

Italy proves itself as a big joke once again. Juve will end up scot free, just about lay money on it. All of the teams should've been demoted at least 2 divisions, they were all caught with their hand in the cookie jar. (although to differing degrees):thumbsd:

I'd say their association did more than most would have.

Can anyone imagine the premier league relegating Man United, Arsenal or Chelsea for something like this?
