Haven't seen it for a while so I had to look it up un the dictionary to get a definition

By my reckoning we now have 30 players that are genuinely competitive senior Afl footballers

that means we have 10 players at Coburg that could come in and play a role

smalls Nahas, Vlaustin Arnott Knights O'Hanlon Dea and Foley

Talls Griffiths Astbury Edwards

We are getting there slowly but surely

This might be nitpicking but looking at that list (and excluding Foley) I would say we have options rather than depth.

The difference being that your depth would be in the starting 22 of most other sides that are mid to low range on the ladder.
I can't see any of those players commanding a game in other similarly placed teams maybe Nahas?

What I don't see is many list cloggers and it has been an eternity since we could say that.

wouldn't get too carried away. We are winning with the players in the 22 not those out. Some are depth though

McBean would probably be Melbourne's best player.

I'm finding it hard to imagine what the team is going to look like "going forward"rolleyes. Knights is practically kicking down the door, Foley you'd have to say is a lock as soon as he's fit, Vlastuin should get at least a few games at some stage, Griff could be anything and Dea/Helbig need another shot to assess them.

My question is who do these guys replace in the team? It has always been so easy to reel off a handful of players to be dropped, but now.... not so much. Fringe players for mine ATM:
Grigg
King? (unlikely)
Petterd
Houli?
Jackson (no chance)
Ellis? (tough. deserves a few chances after such a solid first season)

I can't see who else would even be near Coburg, but lots of these guys are players we have been proud of of late.

A good problem to have I guess.

Thoughts?

Unchartered territory for this generation of Tigers....

I think perhaps what we need to do is ensure that we have 28-30 players who have at least a couple of games in the seniors before finals (hopefully with us participating). I think Collingwood was very good at getting games into it's fringe players to make sure they were ready to step up in big games if required.

I think Petts and Batch are playing for the same spot really. Batch is brilliant as a loose man but no good when matched up on a big marking player (so stop doing it Dimma!) and I think that is probably the roll earmarked for Petts. Personally I prefer Batch in the air as loose man and generally his disposal is more reliable than Petts (shocking ball drop) at the very least it can be more penetrating.

Other than that by end of season I think you have nailed the fringe players with the possible addition of Newman (hope not, I'm a big fan), McGuane (if A.Edwards/Elton/Astbury stand up) and maybe Conca (but probably not) if his form drops off (thinking Foley).....

I'd really like to see a "player management" policy ala Geelong introduced. Important as you say to make sure that everyone who deserves an opportunity gets one, and important for the future etc. Players always talk about how they want an extra bye each year.

Would be hard medicine to swallow if being rested was going to cost you 8000 bananas though.

Yes, an often overlooked part of the equation. But the players of that type just either need to accept it, or gtfu. Easy to say when youve got depth.

So who makes way for Foley?
Exactly. At the moment on form I'd say Grigg or Newman, but both of them are valuable outside players. Hard. Really, it's Grigg for me. Form has been pretty ordinary but he tends to be a consistent performer so Foley in for Grigg, i guess.

Sorry, but it's difficult to take your posts seriously with that avatar. :p

He's mesmerising isn't he.

I'm hoping he becomes an offensive weapon in trolling opposition posters. They don't know whether to laugh or cry or RUN!

Plus my old one was sooo seeerious.

I also wonder where his neck went, and how his chin grew fangs.
