Speedy Cat leaves heartbreak behind :thumbsu:

DAVID Wojcinski's 2005 season played out like a nightmare.
The star Cat's year was over by round two after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament.

Just weeks later his team launched its assault on the competition and into premiership contention without him.

Having to watch Geelong go down to Sydney by just three points in the semi-final only added to his run of bad luck in a year he'd rather forget.

It was frustrating, heart-breaking and disappointing.

But the 25-year-old lives life the way he plays footy - full speed ahead, no time to look back.

He's done enough thinking about the what ifs and is ready to make things happen in 2006.

``The knee feels awesome now, I'm back running and doing some serious flat-out straight line stuff so I'm hooked again and I can't wait for the season to start,'' Wojcinski said.

``It was a pretty tough year. I hated not being able to play, I found that really tough.

``I nearly put a hole in my mum and dad's wall back in Heyfield watching that game against Sydney, but that's footy I guess.''

For a player who hasn't spent a great deal of time on the injury list, Wojcinski had to learn a life without football fast.

While his teammates were gunning towards September, he was stuck in the gym lifting weights.

By June it all became too much.

He couldn't play footy, he couldn't surf and he could barely run, so he packed his bags and headed to Europe.

It proved to be the perfect tonic.

``It just became really hard not being able to get out there with the boys and that was one of the reasons I wanted to get away from it and it definitely helped,'' he said.

``I was pretty devastated not being able to surf, it didn't leave a lot that I could do so going overseas just gave me some time to get away and I really needed it.

``I think having the year off might actually prolong my career because it gave my body a break.

``I had a few niggling hamstring problems before I did my knee so it's given everything a chance to get right and I'm feeling really refreshed.''

Only time will tell if his knee adjusts to footy as well as it has to cutbacks on his surfboard.

Wojcinski said there was only one way to find out.

Admittedly nervous about his first game back, the dashing wingman said his knee was something he would have to put to the back of his mind.

Much like his teammates will have to do with their devastating end to September.

``The boys are pretty fired up for next year and everyone's pretty eager to get back out there,'' he said.

``I think being away from the game has made me even more excited to get back into it.

``I'm sure I'll be a bit nervous in my first game but hopefully I can make up for missing out on this year.''

Can't wait to see him out there bursting down the guts from a defensive rebound!!!! :D

Looks like Wojcinski has spent a lot of time on the weights!
