I sort of feel sorry for this bloke. Was on the back foot since he stepped into the place since day 1.

Never had the respect of the players and didn't even get along with Barry Mitchell.

He will always be remembered now as a 2 time premiership coach with the shinboners.

In his heart at least who knows he always welcome at North.

I've heard plenty about him not being very friendly with the younger players though, so maybe it is him?

Unfortunately Deni$ gave away the opportunity to go down in history like the great Kevin Sheedy will.

Personally I think it was time for Deni$ to move on from North when he did.
But I do remember all the blues supporters claiming the "messia" was going to ressurect carlton.
What is it they say about "he who laughs last"

Dont get me wrong i do feel sorry for Dennis and belive that Carlton treated him like crap, but does any one else get the feeling that once Carey left and he saw the team declining he just gave away a new challenge at North and kind of gave up and left for Princes Park...

As the old saying goes, "The grass isn't always greener on the other side".

Deni$ can go and buy some racehorses or become a Grant Thomas clone "journalist". His time is over! Where is the wake? Thanks for the memories, you can come back to Arden St. and turn the sausages.

Cut him some slack. He might not have left under the best of circumstances and chased a bigger contract (i.e retirement fund).

But he did deliver us 2 flags and is the TOTC coach.

Hopefully someone from the club is in touch with him today and invites him back into the fold now that his ties with the scum from Princes Park have been severed.

Afterall, he is one of us.

Agreed.

Agree totally. He was asked to take a massive pay cut, as well as a significantly reduced footy department when he walked on us. Any professional coach would do the same. I hope we invite him back with open arms ala Micky, Schwatta, etc.

I want to take pleasure in his pain but I can't.

Perhaps we should have parted company when we did, perhaps not.

It was not that he left but more where he went that annoyed me the most.

He was so thoroughly North Melbourne & an intrical part of the great success we had in the nineties, it was always hard seeing him in the navy blue and extolling their virtues.

Yep we need to bring all those guys back. They are North Melbourne people at heart and will always be part of the club.

Sorry, I just have no sympathy for him.

We ask players to take pay cuts in times of need. I just felt Dennis turned his back on us when we needed him most.

I think he saw the writing on the wall, its taken 5 years to finally get some young talent coming through after the way Pagan left the list.

Before this year Daniel Wells was the only young guy to get excited about. Now we have Hamish, JWS, Swallow, McMahon, Lower, Thomas, Campbell, Adams, Hansen (sorry if I forgot anyone).

I don't think Dennis ever got over Carey leaving, which is a shame.

Absolutely no negatives.

Pagan got the money he deserved for winning two premierships.

He also successfully helped to destroy Carlton in the process.

He does have problems at times with certain players (McKernan, Romero etc...) and allows his personality to influence his coaching.

He had success with North because he coached a group through from the under 19's.

If North goes it alone in the VFL, Pagan should be coach of that team, so when Laidley moves on in a couple of years Pagan will be in a situation where he thrives, as a mentor/coach.

If he moves onto an established team he will have the same problems as he did at Carlton, old players old habits and young players with mixed messages.

You know you have a point.

At North - two flags.

At Carlton - three (?) spoons.

Noice.

Pagan must have an interesting record of consecutive finals appearances with two flags combined with consecutive non finals appearances and three (?) spoons.

What are his orange cutting skills like? We'd have to interview for the position, but he'd be on my short-list. Non-paying job, but he gets to hang around excellent footballers. We might let him carry deans papers every second Tuesday.

Hope the money was worth it, Denis.

A bit of respect please. Need I remind everyone in early 93 we had a talented, young list that was more interested in practical jokes than winning. We also had no coach, no captain, no sponsor and no direction. Denis came in and turned our club around instantly.

He helped make our great club what it is today. He invented the "Shinboner Spirit". He helped make Archer, Simpson, Stevens, Harvey etc the great people they are today.

He held our club together during our darkest days and would have played a large role in telling our greatest ever player and "spiritual leader" at the time he was no longer welcome.

I also don't subscribe to the "left our list in shambles theory". Almost half our team, that currently sits second, was recruited under him. Simpson, Harvey, Archer, Grant, Watt, Pratt (initially), Rawlings, Harris, Hale, Petrie and Sinclair. That's a pretty good nucleus he left us with.

Oh and I also almost forgot the 2 premierships that he helped deliver!

For mine the club owes more to Denis than he owes us. Best of luck Denis and thanks.

Needs to have a week long bath, to wash the stink off, and come back down to home.

If people want Wayne back, then we should all welcome back DP.
