....apparently charging does exist all of a sudden.

1 week for Chaffey and Hodge, both fairly minor incidents, especially the 2nd one. If they are going to be like that all year some teams may struggle to field a side as they will have 8-10 players out suspended.

Maybe instead of worrying about orange uniforms and 9 point goals the AFL should concentrate on fixing the tribunal.

I did not see the Chaffey one, but the Hodge decision is a joke. 50m was the right decision. He went hard and slightly misjudged his atttempt to spoil. Nothing more. Absolute joke. And i'm a saints supporter.

I'm staggered as well. I mean, it means nothing because he only misses a meaningless practice match, but it's more the principle. If they are going to be like that all year we won't see a defender spoil all season.

I think the general consensus from both Hawthorn and St Kilda supporters after the game was a definite 50 but definitely not reportable.

Worst thing is there is no point appealling, so he just has to wear an unwarrented suspension that probably won't help when he gets reported again (and with Hodgey it will happen).

Saw the Hodge incident on the news and from memory Hodge left his feet.

When you leave your feet you are always going to be in trouble.

Hodge's 'charge' was almost Trent Croad-esque!;)

Hodge was stitched up. He did the wrong thing, but if that's even reportable...well...you've got to question the sanity of that umpire for making the claim and the tribunal for going ahead and punishing him!

In the heat of the moment, he went for the spoil, missed it, crashed into Ball, 50m is fair. That's it.

I saw both....

Chaffey got what he deserved. He was in no way going to have any chance of marking the ball....but he slmmed into the back of Mthew whelan anyway.
But the odd thing was that wheels wasent given a 50m pen....which is an automatic after a report??

The Hodge incident is a joke. How could he have prevented it. The ball was intended for him.......

Sounds painful! ;) And yes Id imagine as a footballer youd be in big trouble if you left them:p

...and fixing the 'holding the ball' rule.

It's slowly becoming non-existant and the players know they can get away with it more and more everytime.

Btw, The Hodge decision - pathetic, such an insignficant offence that has now landed him with a record.

At least it's only preseason, that's the only positive.

Hodge got a shocker, but thankfully he will only miss a pre-season game. The tribunal made a bad decision, but at least it won't hurt too much.

Chaffey should have gotten 2... ;)

I always thought Chaffey was a goner from when the incident happened so I'm not surprised by his verdict.

Yes, I agree as well. Once you clean someone up in a marking contest like that, you are gone.

I didnt see the hodge one but i saw the chaffey one, and i said straight away that he should get 2weeks.So hes lucky to only get the one week.

Hodge was stiff, to think that the majority of the time he wouldn't be reported never mind actually making it to the tribunal.

Hodge out? A tribunal decision helps Collingwood? Pity it's in pre-season.

That's our quota for the year out of the way!

I didn't actually see either incident so can't comment.

Usual pre season and early season rubbish from the umpires. They go overboard on a few rules and "incidents" and the supposed independant tribunal suspend Jwalkers. Then it all settles down and the AFL, umpires and tribunal all say nothing has changed. It happens every year. It give me the unowots!

Didn't see the Hodge incident but:

If both are guilty, why is one served in the pre-season & one not.

Yes I know Richmond are out of the Wizzy Cup but I thought the idea was to serve the punishment in the format it happened.

Not saying Chaffey didn't deserve a week although over 100 games without a tribunal appearance counts for jack.

Seth.

It's started .....

A man came home from work, sat down in his favorite chair, turned on the TV, and said to his wife,"Quick, bring me a beer before it starts."

She looked a little puzzled, but brought him a beer. When he finished it, he said, "Quick, bring me another beer. It's gonna start." This time she looked a little angry, but brought him a beer.

When it was gone, he said, "Quick, another beer before it starts.

"That's it!" She blows her top! "You bastard! You waltz in here, flop your fat arse down, don't even say hello to me and then expect me to run around like your slave. Don't you realize that I cook and clean and wash and iron all day long?"

The husband sighed, "It's started!"

Or as a further pre-requisite, teach the umpires the basic rules of our game.

It's a conspiracy.

Who do Hawthorn playi nthe game Hodge will miss? Collingwood.

Who do Richmond play in the game Chaffey will miss? Collingwood.

It's all falling into place...
