It's time for Tambling

As he enters his third AFL season, Richmond goalsneak Richard Tambling has declared it's time he made a major impact on the competition.

Tambling was hailed as one of the most exciting players on offer in the 2004 NAB AFL draft and the Tigers snapped him up at pick four in the same draft which produced teammate Brett Deledio, Hawthorn key position players Jarryd Roughead and Lance Franklin and the Bulldogs' Ryan Griffen in the first five picks.

While Tambling has made nowhere near the impact in his two seasons to date than the other four, the small forward from the Northern Territory has been solid rather than spectacular in amassing 33 games and 23 goals in two seasons.

After his debut season was ruined by injury, Tambling was a regular in the Tigers' much-improved side in 2006 as he played 21 of the 22 games and kicked 14 goals.

But now the 20-year-old has set his sights on a big year in 2007, particularly as he is enjoying an injury-free pre-season having already added three kilos to his small frame.

"I am feeling that it's time to make an impact and hopefully I can train well and get a few more games and be a good contributor to the team," he told Sportal.

"I am hoping to have a big year, I have put on a bit of weight and I have got no injuries."

Tambling said he is always conscious of trying to bulk up, having arrived at Punt Road two years ago weighing just 70kgs.

"I have put on about three kilos this pre-season so I feel a bit stronger now and I have put on about probably about five kilos since I first started."

Tambling said he knows there will be plenty of pressure to perform this year, particularly with Richmond's exciting crop of young players (including Tambling) being the focus of the club's membership campaign this season.

"Some of the boys love that but it's a good idea and hopefully we can all have a big year," he said.

"The team played pretty well at the end of last year (with wins in three of the last four games to just miss the finals) and hopefully we can start off well this year."

"We haven't had a great start lately and we have lost the first game in the last two years so hopefully next year we can get off to a strong start."

This is his third season, and this will be the season eveyone will wonder why he didn't go number one. Top 3 in B&F is my pick. There will be no doubters by the end of the season. This kid will rip sides apart next year. Seriously cant wait to watch him.

We really need him to step up if we are to make a run at the finals this year if he doesn't we should send him into the 2's (VFL) or even delist him.

If we delisted him, we would deserve to stay on the bottom, he hasnt really had the easiest start to his career you know

I'll send you up to the NT (Asuming you're from Melbourne). As a 17 year old. You and your girlfriend have a baby a few months later. Your first season consists of many injuries. You still have to get used to the culture and being away from family. Your GF wants to return home and is extremely homesick.

Keeping in mind he was never raised under a male figure, just his grandmother.

You grow up around just about everybody being indigionous to switching that and everybody isn't indigionous (sp?)

Could you cope any better?

That was all in his first season. Do you really expect more from him?

Is he still 19? Or god forbid 20? Geez if he isn't getting 30+ possessions and 6 goals a game this year automatic delist!

I am another who cannot wait.

I have got high expectations for Tambo and next year i think he will show why he was touted so highly. And to think he is only 20 as well.....:D :D

he is too good for the tag "goalsneak"

he is a serious midfielder and the quicker he gets his body right the better

I don't think its time for Tambling. Needs one more development year IMO. Anything he does in 2007 is a bonus in my mind.

Bingo. He is still light on and needs another year at least for body development. 2008 will be the year he should be judged on.

Congratulations to the fella. Puts his hand up and sets himself something to aim for. I'll be cheering him on the entire season, even if he falls short.

A stark contrast to hearing Miller's rubbish about us not being ready for finals until the Year 2056, or whatever year he decides to live to.

More Tambling, less Miller is what this club needs

This kid is going to be something. There's been enough cameo's to suggest he can string it together.

Also impressed that he and his missus spat out a tin-lid when they were both only rugrats themselves. Shows he know how to use his cahones, unlike his more senior teammates in Chippendale, Gastro and Gay Hall.

Will be a gun, make no doubts about it, really can't wait to stick it to many ********ers on the main boards, especially parrot and his posse of deluded blues fans
