Surely there is a better number 3 in the country at the moment than Langer.

He can't make any runs, get's out to crap bowling and takes to long even when he gets in.

Isn't about time they gave Brad Hodge, Jimmy Maher, Simon Katich or Jamie Cox a go.

Thoughts?

Langer Needs To Go! ****in Hell Im Sick Of HIm Getting Out After Shit Good Opening Stance From The Openers!

Give Hodge Ago!

gcg have to disagree with u this time
last season langer started off bad and came good to be australias highest run scorer
i think he will come good, i dont think he should be dropped
perhaps swapping him and ponting first should be a better option than straight out dropping him

if it aint broke dont fix it

I am a huuuuuuuuge fan of Langer (and all fellow lefties), but even my patience is starting to wear thin!
I thought Gilly should have sent Deadbat Gillespie in as nightwatchman when Hayden was run out, especially seeing as Langer needed a score to cement his spot (and retain the team's stability) and he had little to gain by batting for a short time before stumps. Langer will probably last one more test or see out the series, but more big scores from Katich and Martyn will see them compete with Langer for his place when S.Waugh returns.

langer gets a ton next game or gets important second innings runs you guys will all be praising him, three failures in a row is believe it or not COMMON in test cricket.
GET REAL PEOPLE

at the moment langer is way out of form his form even in the shield hasnt been to crash hot but australia has been successful in the last 15 yrs or so with a player like langer[boon and marsh]while it would be great to have 5-6 batsman in your side and all being stokemakers but the fact is every side needs a brickwall type player and at the momment langer fits that bill despite his lack of form at the momment.
cheers!

As stated, in half of 12 tests we've won on the trot Langer was our highest scorer and, well Boon-like in his approach to no.3 duties, the hardest batting position there is. While it would be good for him to get back amongst the runs soonish it is ridiculous to call for his head yet... particular as we took 3 years to decide on a decent no 3 post Boon, his massive still recent contributions (man of the series last year against Pakistan or India) and given the amazing leeway shown to Boon, M.Taylor, Blewett (for ages) & recently Afghan (the forgotten Waugh). Also, he a shit hot silly point, short leg fielder - not easily replaced...

Jezz you guys have short memories.

I can tell you this for free - if the Poms had dropped Hussain for his run of low scores (not helped by some shocking umpiring decisions) they would not have won the series in Pakistan...

I have total faith in Langer to hit is form very soon. Australia would not be in the history books if it wasn't for Langer, think back to the Hobart test aginist Pakistan on the final day. He came through strong with Gilly and believe he can do it again.

Cheers WA. Nick, WA etc - what are these other guys on? Too much MTV instant satisfaction? Is anyone still clambering for Junior's head (even at 36) now that he's made 170 odd in two knocks? That's all it takes guys....

Also the problem with dropping Langer and including Martyn, as someone pointed out, means you will end up with 7 (incl Gilly) strokemakers and no steady rock - this is a must have in test cricket. Particularly given that Steve Waugh can't go on forever... Martyn will get his chance soon enough...

When you've won 12 on the trot you do not call for changes.

Dutch

PS. Incidently, great to see Hayden finally making it and looking solid (as an openner) - love to see him go on and really dominate - and this from a Matthew Elliott supporting Victorian (!)...

How good is the Pont going to be?

Blewett is now 223 n.o. in the S.A v Q.L.D game. Surely he must play in the next before Langer. Langer can bat but is far less consistant than Blewett

Well Well...
In the 2nd innings we are chasing only 130. But Australia has a tendency of crumbling to small targets. And it happened again. We were 4/47. But at stumps we are now 4/103. Thanks going to Justin Langer who is still unbeaten along side with Damien Martyn. Langer has been the only one showing any resistance (with Martyn.) I said a few days ago that i have faith in him and it looks to be showing...

ditto...

Also, Blewett's had more opportunity than Jamie Packer and Lochlan Murdock combined - he's not there because he consistently mixes great ability with dissapointing results at test level - that said, I hope he makes it back because he provides a bowling option...

Its gonna be a very close session tommorow morning. There bowlers will be fresh again tommorow and Langer and Martyn will have to get their eye in again and settle in which is not good. If the Windies get a wicket or two they have a very strong chance of pulling off a upset. This will test the Aussies. It could still go either way...
GO AUSSIES!

Langer 1st Ball!

Hodge will get the nod over Blewett coz the 4th test is in Melbourne and the selectors will most likly go for the Victorian!

I'm a fan of Justin Langer. I've met him twice at cricket clinics in my younger days and he was really helpful and a good role model to everyone. Whilst his form hasn't been anywhere near what he's capable of achieving I'm a little disappointed with some peoples short memories from last season where he was the highest runscorer.

He made a step in the right direction today with 48 and I'm confident we'll see him back for the remaining test matches this summer.

I dont think Langer should be moved anywhere in the batting order. He is used to coming in at first drop and he hasn't done as well batting down the order.
