I've got a simple question

To all the doomsdayers, how many of the other 14 sides out there shape up like geelong....Id suggest most of that lot wouldnt have made too much more of an impression than we did....

FFS, let the season unfold:eek:

Spot on Bojangles.
Lets remember they had 9 players in the AA side last year and there was probably another 3-5 that could consider themselves unlucky not to have been in it.
I have been following footy for a long time and the only side I can recall that would rate with this side is the Hawthorn side of the late 80s and early 90s when they played in 7 grand finals in 9 years.
I think that this Geelong team has the potential to do the same sort of thing because of the age of the playing group.
Others may say what about Brisbane but their playing group was a lot older across the board than this Geelong crew .
If the GFC can keep these guys together then it could well be a really golden era for them as there is a lot of the stars in their team that probably still have not peaked.
Just an opinion.
But I would still not read too much into tonights game.
I think the fact that we came back with only an injury cloud over Tambling is far more important at this stage of the year than the numbers on the scoreboard.

in the afl site wallace laments the lack of talls in defense. this has been a problem for years. Polak is a Tall, mcguane a small tall, why havent they recruited another tall instead of a small tall?

rance , geordis, and putt havent played a single practice match in the seniors, unlike other clubs that have show cased their new recruits. RANCE/GEORDIS are in t he 192cm region, but i wouldnt mind having a 195cm+ kpp for once.

thats not much of a measure, I dont think any of those fellas were recruited on the basis of plugging gaps in 2008, its fair to say:confused:

Geelong picked up mature draft harry taylor who is 193cm, also egan was mature recruit, how come tigers dont look australia wide for a mature tall kpp.

Silvester?

I dont think picking the mediocre full back from your vfl affiliate counts as "looking australia wide"

190 cm is pretty much midfielder height now. I dont know who is tall or mobile enough to go on a westoff type or a resting ruckman like cox.

Still, I dont think we lack youth talent in defence, its just we lack a developed tall defender and until we pick one up or develop one of those youngsters we're in for some pain.

We should have thrown a big chunk of the 3 million dollars that miller reckons he had for Judd if he slipped through to us at a gun kp defender. If we had 1 full back or centre half back in the class of glass, scarlett, rutten, fletcher and co we would be able to develop our younger players better aswell as being able to build the team around that KP champ.

and who might that have secured us RB along with a high draft pic and and awful lot of salary cap, i think the masses would much prefer the R2 selection of Rance:eek:

Rutten was out of contract at the end of last year. If we used 18 and 19 aswell as accepting ports offer for schulz i reckon we could have negotiated a deal, using the fact we could pick him up in the psd for free.
