no point sending big money forwards into defence.

There is no reason we could not redifine his role. It's been done before with success. Just because he was a forward all the time at the wobbles dosent mean he has to be with us. He has the skills.... plus we could always switch to the forward now and then to try to scramble the other teams match ups as well.

SO true need to realize it sooner than later we are exposed to $300k/yr for 2008 & 2009 so we need to retire him and copp the hole in TPP and recruit a young backup ruckman in draft which will cost $40K each yr for the next two yrs.

Who ever decided on that contract for JLo, knowing his medical problems should not have a job any more. 4 years for a guy with massive knee problems was just absolutely insane.

The guy will be a cripple when he is 40. That is the sad thing. I hope he doesnt play AFL again and thinks about his life after football.

Yep, it's over for Jlo :(

Even if he did somehow make it back to AFL, he would not have the agility or the spring to be of much use. As others have said, it's time for him to think about how he is going to get around for the rest of his life.

Sure it was a bad decision to sign him for so long, but if he's ended up with chronic knee problems from playing for Freo, then I don't suppose anyone will begrudge him the money.

Well done on a mercurial 139 games Jlo. I will never forget the day you rucked at the MCG against Melbourne in 2005, got injured, came back on and helped win us the game. And of course the kick after the siren in Round 21 of that same year.

Pension him off ASAP. :thumbsu:

I could be wrong, but if the voluntary retirements and more prudent delistings this year are enough to make room for the number of picks we expect to have, then there is no reason to force other contracted player such as Longmuir in to retirement just yet (even if he never plays again).

One must also ask has he been playing over the last 3-4 yrs with pain killing injections? ie making his degenerative condition worse(if that is possible?)

I'm thinking does it leave the Club in vunerable position?

I understand he was playing with pain killing injections for a considerable amount of time.. people were talking about his knees being bad in like 2002, and he was playing in 2005. It couldn't possibly have made his knees better, lets put it this way.

I'd say the club has covered their arse and given JLo the choice in the past.. but when he got his 4 year contract, he probably thought stuff it, its not worth my future to try and keep playing. It's a shame.

That was Connolly's logic with Croad and then he was selected at CHB in the All Australian side on his return to hawthorn.

For nowhere near as much money, and playing in a team that actually needed a CHB, unlike Freo. AA is bullshit anyway, you get a guy come from WA and play identical football over east and suddenly he is a star. Polak (starring spare man in defense for the bottom team) and McPhee (his disposal is still shit house, he lacks a football brain and does his best work playing a spare man in defense) are not world beaters, they are simply playing for a victorian club now.

Longmuir Surgery

News
Fremantle ruckman Justin Longmuir has undergone surgery this week on his troublesome right knee.

After playing two games in the opening three rounds of the season, Justin’s ability to play and train fully was severely restricted and as a result he was placed on the club’s long term injury list on 27 April.

Over the following months, Justin extensively consulted leading orthopaedic surgeons around the country to determine the best course of action.

As a result of these consultations, Justin underwent surgery this week and he will face an extensive rehabilitation period. The long term prognosis will not be known until after that time.

The club looks forward to Justin recovering fully and resuming training in the New Year.

Well I suppose its the last roll of the die. If they can get some game time from him in 2008 it means that they are only exposed for 2009 in the TPP for about $300k.

Croad was on $400,000 a year from 2002-2005, which is about what Tarrant's on now but Croad would have been taking up a bigger chunk of the salary cap so in a way he was on more than Tarrant. 40% of Croad's $400,000 in 2004 and 2005 was paid by Fremantle even though he was playing for the hawks because hawthorn weren't silly enough to pay him the ridiculous amount of money Schwab agreed to pay him.

We do need a CHB, and we'd be a much better side at present with Croad in the 22. Dodd is handy but he loses the ball in flight sometimes and gives away some silly free kicks.

Croad was ten times better in 2004 at hawthorn compared to 2003 at Freo. There was tension between he and Connolly because CC was the one who pushed for Croad to be traded when they were both at hawthorn.

McPhee was very good in his season as an AA but has dropped off since.

Polak has been getting 20 possessions and 10 marks a game, but as you say he doesn't have an opponent and they aren't winning games. If he was averaging the same numbers at Freo many people would be talking him up though, and his season has been much better than Mundy's who plays a similar role.
