Seriously, a few on here owe this bloke an apology. Posters were so quick to write him off, not up to AFL standard etc, despite giving 110% against the Dees.

I love what he brings to the team, and he's still so young. He was awesome against WC. Reckon he has midfield potential too in the long term.

Good on ya Lones, onwards and upwards from here.

Never knocked Lonie ever.

He has the skills to be the next Sam Mitchell. He won't last as a small forward though. Not fast enough and not enough tricks.

Get him to build his body more and get him into a half back / mid position. He'll star from there.

I think he's too small to play the Mitchell type roles, but he's inches taller than Caleb Daniel, so I don't see him being to small to play a more outside role, like the one Schneider played for us a lot in 2009/2010 and Daniel plays for WB.

Interesting that he did another one of those super fast, turn-and-kick-around-the-body-without-looking kicks that he was criticised for doing in one of the JLT games. But this time he hit someone with it right in front of goal 15m out from memory. And that's what will happen if he keeps on doing it- they'll be ready for it and moving to that position and it will put the opposition defense under immense pressure at the top of the goalsquare.

I'd argue he had a look with that kick. Same intention, same movement, but I think he had a quick peek and it payed off. Only mentioning it cos I saw it too and thought the same thing at first. Maybe he's... learning!? :O

His games always seem a lot better when he converts his 1-2 chances on goal like he did this week. Not much else was that different from his usual output.

This right here.
Last year both Lonie & Sinclair seemed to be a tad unlucky, missing alot of those quick 50/50 snaps at goal that someone like Milney was such a master at.
Start slotting a few more of those, turning behinds into goals and their value to the team increases massively.

Agree. Small forward is tough role. His outside work is very skilled.

I admit I stuck the knife in him after the Melbourne game. He gives his 100% every game, but against the Dees he was very fumbly, made some poor decisions with the ball and as always gave away stupid free kicks (like Bruce does)

But he had a great game against the Eagles (as did our whole team, no one had a poor game really) and as always I'll happily admit when I'm wrong and eat my own words for if the team is doing better.

Let's hope he keeps playing like that and doesn't revert to the flailing, flopping, free kick giver awayerer that he has been in the past :)

I was the same - put my hand up there. Thought he was very average skill wise against the Dees and had not justified his spot but he was very good against WC. I really hope his form continues coz we all know how dangerous he can be.

Well done to LD to hold us to account. Just want to see the kid back it up for a couple of weeks before I would go a full apology. Consistency is the key.

I think he is worth persevering with for a long time to come yet.

You see so many quality small forwards get picked up once they're like 22-23 years old that go on to have great careers. We have potentially one of the best going around in Lonie, and even if he is going to take some time he is still a good prospect. He looks so much better when he is able to have spurts in the middle, hopefully his increasing fitness will allow him to do more of this in the future, I believe this is his favourite position also.

I would be happy to keep both Lonie and Sincs on for at least 2018 and 2019 to see how they develop, too much skill and talent not to make it IMO.

i reckon he had just seen a congested goal square and just went of the hottest of hot spots with his blind kick. It's not bad when it comes off, it creates a sense of complete chaos for defenders and has a good chance of falling to the ground rather than being taken cleanly which gives our other small forward opportunity. If there are a pile of players already camped it's not a bad option.

Lonie's ability to make every kick out a contest makes him super valuable. Minch does it too when he comes in but Lonie has extra speed to get to the next player. He's like a much better version of Mc Qualter where his reviews after the game will get him picked every week but lots of the fans will wonder why a small forward who doesn't kick a lot of goals is getting played His pressure acts are some of the best in the comp.

I agree that he is unlikely to be an inside mid like Mitchell can be.

Outside role seems to be his go, given that he usually tries to find space instinctively for a receive.

He's a competitive little fella, that's for sure. I don't know if he has enough tricks to make up for his lack of size and pace. Early days though.

Last year he played 10 games and did not collect more than 14 disposals in any of those games.

15 and 16 so far this year, with goals and pressure acts.
In his 1st season he had games of 20 disposals and 2 goals 3, an 18 and 1, an 18, a 17 and 2 goals 1, and a 16 and 1 goal 2, so hopefully we see plenty more games like them this year.

I'm probably going to sound like a broken record here, but that's why I often preach patience from all of us supporters.

Both he and Sincs were very good first year players in a team that wasn't so good, got the notorious second year blues and now need to be given the chance to show the improvement they would have made playing in the VFL.

Ross was a slow burn and Acres and Paddy are also proving to be so. As were Joey and Goddard. Even Milney didnt start off as a star.

I'm not saying Lonie is definitely going to be a star, but let's not be so quick to write off these young players.

Hence why he was criticised over the last year, it's not about being a "hater", he just wasn't very good last year.

Good to see him get back to his first-year sort of form on Saturday night. He was fantastic and hopefully he keeps playing like that.

Ah, my mistake, I was thinking of a kick he took to the corridor out of our back half that picked out a player in congestion. Was a great kick, spun around, had a glance and speared it all in one motion.
