Player Watch Jack Lukosius

Nothing against Luko personally, but we need to stop recruiting flaky forwards. Dixon, Finlayson, Luko—there's a definite trend. Not sure what the solution is, as players need to actually want to come here via trade, and drafting forwards is more of a lotto unless you get a high enough draft pick to snag a known quantity—and sometimes even that doesn't work out.

Ideally, we need to use top 10 picks to get key forwards who have the size and underage pedigree to be true match winning key forwards.

It's based on five years of looking lacklustre for Gold Coast including under a ruthless three-time premiership coach who clearly wasn't distressed about losing him. There's nothing to suggest that Lukosius can do anything other than play as a tall flanker (forward or back) based on his AFL career so far. Make no mistake, he will kick hauls of 4-5 goals from time to time, but in big games and against strong opponents, it's looking unlikely that he will be the "cake" we need as another poster described. You can only go by evidence to date. He doesn't compete relentlessly enough to be a CHF and right now we need a CHF more than a tall, skillful but laconic flanker. If Lord comes good, then Lukosius as a flanker becomes more acceptable. Still it's a high price to pay a future first round pick (that may be inside the top 10) for a tall flanker.

Yeah, I get it but I just want to see him play a few proper games for us first.

There have been quite a few examples of gc players elevating their games at a new club.

Not sure he was ever going to be your traditional CHF.

So much bedwetting from a meaningless match sim game where the majority of our players barely got out of 2nd gear. Why is he getting more flack than Butters, Rozee, Wines etc? They all played piss poor and lacked intensity as well.

He will be perfectly fine and a very good player for us for many years to come.

Problem is we need him to be elite and elite very quickly.

Otherwise he'll just turn into another flaky tall flanker type to add to the long list of tall flaky types we've had since 2010

Im trying to think of a player who looked to lack intensity and competitiveness for as long as Luko then went on to become a proper KPF.

Can't think of any.

There's still time but he needs a rocket.

Schulz was incredibly ordinary for his entire Richmond career before it clicking with us

Assistant coaches are far less likely to take an interstate job over one in Vic. Living in Melbourne has greater networking opportunities, bigger football culture, plus it's easy to switch clubs for a better offer without moving from their family home/kids schools.

Currently across both SA teams, there's one assistant coach that wasn't originally born in South Australia and that's Tyson goldsack.

If I’m an assistant, I wouldn’t care where I move. Depends on the club too. Location shouldn’t bother any assistant, it’s a stepping stone to one day be a head coach.

From memory it took him some time to become handy for us also.

Seeing Lukosius over the last few years has convinced me that the afl is a money laundering exercise.
He is bone average to say the least, will he improve under stinkly?? I don't think so, one money launder to another.

Nah Watched him growing up was always laconic and lazy, gifted skills wise but lazy. His hardness was always a question mark..
Yeah ok

"Unlike many other early selections in recent years, Jack Lukosius is not your stay-at-home key forward. A key component of his game is his ability to venture off down the wings to help link up the play. It is not unusual to see him pop up around centre half-back when the ball is down in the opposition half. He has a strong endurance base (reached level 21.2 in the combine yo-yo test) and is able to cover enormous distances in his travels. This allows him to collect tallies of marks relatable to that of St.Kilda great Nick Riewoldt, the great majority of which come in an uncontested manor. Not only does Lukosius have the skill, athleticism and work rate, the Henley High School product is also a very intelligent player."

Gees we snagged an absolute bargain

We already saw it at the end of the first quarter; the justin westhoff chuck swingman back at the end of a quarter to stem bleeding. Seen it before leaving S Gray one outs at full forward but this time itll be Jed head.

Diff cattle same coach

We need to spread harder and present more leads as a team for this new game plan to work. It was only match sim but our players are still taking too long to move the ball forward and the players ahead of the ball are still too
stagnant.

I can see Luko best chance of succeeding in a higher half forward role working up and down the ground, think Nick Riewoldt. Unsure if he has the tank or work ethic but its his best bet.

One thing to note was Rankine also did absolutely zilch at the Gold Coast, he showed a couple flashes but for the most part was very underwhelming there. Hoping Luko can have a similair type of breakout being in an environment he is comfortable.
