Player Watch Jack Lukosius

Stop expecting him to be the second coming of Warren Tredrea and accept his game is more Stewart Dew at 6’4. Stop wanting him to be a Key Pillar up forward, he is an extremely gifted 6’4 Flanker, there have been plenty of great Flankers who have had massive impacts on footy clubs over the course.

May he be our Rohan Smith of the late 20’s and early 30’s. He will play his best games when Georgie and Whitlock/Lord/Visintini are doing well.
Got a long way to go to get anywhere near Rohan smiths output.

3rd tall, icing on the cake.

Turn us on with his kicking but drive us nuts with his overall softness.

Interesting watch and very matchup dependent.

I've got to balance this out because his potential is through the roof and he could be that next great third forward like Gunston but obviously in his own right.

With Dougie coming in, Luko might have to find another role in the team.

As a few have said, if he runs and leads hard, it will give Georgiades and Whitlock more space to work in and Lukosius has the ability to kick into F50 space or goal.

I hope Carr has a sneaky plan for him.

He is the most interesting watch out of all of our players.

His role is to be a lead up centre half forward delivering precision balls into the 50 and taking longer shots to clear the zone defense. Will sometimes play deep 1 out but isn’t ever going to be a crash and bash contested marking forward.

His skill set is unique and will be very good if Josh has a game plan that can utilise his strengths and minimise his weaknesses.

With Luko, George and Whitlock we have 3 elite running key forwards. If we are able to avoid the 'kick it long to Dixon' game plan this year then these guys should get on the end of plenty of goals from transition.

The only downside is I don't think any of them are good bail out options down the line as they aren't suited to standing under high balls. It would be good if we had a ruckman that was a decent overhead mark.

The cynism on this guy after one injured season is ridiculous,. He has valuable assets.and weak attributes, like nearly every player. Its up to the coaching staff to maximise his strengths and make him look amazing when hes used effectively.in a functioning system

He has a few things against him.

He's plays laconically.
He was 2nd overall and you want those high guys to be Buddy.
He's on very good coin and we gave up a fair bit for him.

People need to take a chill pill and see what he can do under Carr.

There were very solid reasons Lukosius was drafted before Rankine, Ben and Max King, Rozee, Bailey Smith and Butters. Nothing that has happened since has dampened his upside. At his best, over the next 5 years he will be a rolled gold match winner.

196cm elite athlete with one of the best kicks in the comp. He ought to be free to play that leading CHF (Darren Smith style), leading up, delivering inside 50 and beating his opponent back towards goals for some easy goals. If, on top of that, Carr can add some mongrel to his game, we have Nick Riewoldt Mark II. If not, we still have a star.

Bit hard when you've had one season playing as a key forward and not being thrown around to plug holes.

And then after you have a successful season as a forward, the new coach decides nah we'll go back to throwing all around the ground again.

Being thrown around the ground is probably his best position

Luckily his name is already Jack

No disagreement at all, but another much maligned Half Forward. What I would say is Rohan battled beyond his height, the opposite to Jack.

Should, but he is more Ryan Burton than Julian Burton at the moment.

Lukosius has played 123 games and hasn't become anything near Nick Riewoldt yet.

There is always room for improvement but he is going to have to work his @$$ off to get the max out of himself instead of relying on God given talents.

My major concern surrounding Luko was how Dimma managed him. First he dropped him to the Twos,, then was happy to let him consider other options outside of the Suns.

We all know last year was a complete write off for him due to injuries, but Im actually looking forward in seeing how Josh will utilise him this year. A tall, hard running forward who possesses an elite kick can create a lot of headaches for the opposition.

There’s a real sense of excitement if both Luko and Toddy can nail down their perspective roles this season. It could create a real point of difference and certainly gives us some extra flexibility and options in how we approach various games.
