Jack quits South

John Cahill pulled the pin as South Adelaide coach after 8 games. I guess he outlasted Don Scott.

He's 68. Wonder whether he found his energy levels weren't up to the challenge. I guess there'll be something in the Tiser plus plenty of chat on the KG and Cornes show. I don't listen to them so will be hoping to hear from those who do.

He quit after South lost its first 7 games. At the time I heard that he was missing his boyfriend in Melbourne. Never have been sure whether there was any substance to that rumour.

In 1991 I went to about 6 crows games at Footy Park with a mate who is a footy nut. I was overseas for a few games and missed them.

We would park for free at the Lakes Resort hotel car park have a beer or two before and after the game. The opposition players would stay there as would the interstate TV crews.

After one game, Collingwood I think, Steven Phillips was at the bar. Phillips called games for Ch 7 in the 80's and then went into the production side. My mate who has never been shy, went up to Phillips and said " You work with Don Scott, he has played 300 games, he can't be that dumb about football, can he?" Phillips looked straight at my mate and said, " The only way you can get votes from Don Scott is if you are bleeding from all 3 orifices." With that he skulled his scotch and left the bar. We were both stunned, and it takes a bit to make us both speechless.

Jack deserved better.
Not sure if he went to South for the cash, but, to have his experience, premiership record and know-how, and to leave after 8 games is a sad indictment on South Adelaide.

What a rabble they are, and a disgrace to the SANFL.

Jack's next stop - Port Magpies next year.

South's next coach will be their fourth in 12 months. It's that sort of tradition that's made them the force they are in SA Footy.

Imagine if they were allowed to tank for draft picks ...

They tried to fool us with a couple of early wins, but they have their sights firmly set on the #1 pick now.

Their Chairman, Dave Flanagan - he's not the well-known comedian is he? How fitting would that be? :D

Yep, sure is.

Bring in Ryan Fitzgerald as coach, and you'd have 2 out of 3 circus rings filled.

Nothing wrong with Timmy...per say..
but, results haven't gone his way.
Can't see that being tolerated for too much longer..
great players don't always make great coaches...see senior ebo..

We get our full team on the park, things might change..injuries haven't helped...but, sadly Timmy's weeks are numbered...rightly or wrongly.

I suppose we will have to wait until the full story comes out. Flanagan gave absolutely nothing away on the sports show. On face value I thought South would finish bottom before the season started. They had a couple of good early wins and have copped some pumpings but after all is said and done they are only out of the top 5 on percentage.

Something is going on when the coach leaves 8 rounds into a 2 year contract.

By the sounds of Cornes' article in the Saturday Tiser, it looks like Torney has white-anted him.

Pathetic if true, yet somewhat expected from that rabble.
