How bout a race for the nod of captaincy? Maybe not the next but captain Definately the next after that. Not the most verbal but his actions on the field is what leads.

Redden staying put

THERE'S no chance that emerging Brisbane Lions midfield ace Jack Redden will be heading home to play in Adelaide.

There has been speculation in recent weeks that the 21-year-old may return to his home town, mainly as a potential trade option as the Lions chase out-of-contract Crows forward Kurt Tippett.

But following coach Michael Voss' comments last week that Redden was integral to the Lions' future, the man himself said he was more than happy living in Brisbane.

YOUNG gun Jack Redden wants to be a Lion for life.

The 21-year-old has been embroiled in trade speculation about a possible homecoming to South Australia in exchange for out-of-contract Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett.

But Redden plans on being a one-club player.

And Brisbane will not be putting the talented midfielder on the trade table.

"Brisbane has given me great opportunities from the get go, the Lions have been great to me," Redden said.

6. Jack Redden is the most under-rated of the Lions' Three Rs
While Daniel Rich won the 2009 NAB Rising Star award and Tom Rockliff the 2011 Lions B&F, the quietest of the Three Rs continued to develop as a footballer this year. Redden, the 21-year-old from South Australia, was patchy early but his back half of the season was sublime. He found plenty of the ball (a team-high 25 disposals and five clearances per game), was a relentless tackler (second in the competition) and is now one of the Lions' best ball users going forward. Another season of improvement will see him move in the elite bracket.

Anyone not at the b&f would've missed it, but quite funnily when he won the member's award, he thanked the players, before then winning the player's award and thanking the members. Made me chuckle.

Redden breaks Black streak

Since its introduction to the Club Champion honour roll in 2009, the Brisbane Lions’ Players’ Player Award has had only one recipient - Simon Black.

At least that was until last Friday night when Jack Redden brought Black’s three-year unbeaten reign to end by claiming the 2012 trophy.

Redden now becomes only the second player in Club history to be recognised by his peers with this esteemed honour, which is voted on ‘by’ the players ‘for’ the players.

But the unheralded Redden is one of the major success stories of 2012 for Michael Voss' men. The 21-year-old SA product averaged a team-high 25 disposals and sits second across the entire competition for tackles. Having played every match over the past three seasons, it's all starting to come together for him.

The quietly spoken, golf club throwing Jack Redden has had another outstanding year in 2012. His resilience has seen him notch up his third year in a row playing every game. (Writer touches wood)

Season 2012 also saw Jack Redden staying in touch with Chris Judd on all stats except Chicken Wings.

By his own standards Jack had a fairly quiet start to the year, and did not really get going until round 6. Some of his best performances were in our big losses to Essendon, Collingwood (rounds 6 and 7) and West Coast (round 18). On the winning side standout jobs were performed in the back to back wins against the Dogs and Melbourne (rounds 13, 14).

His best game of the year for mine was against Adelaide in round 21. This performance had Simon Black suggesting that Jack had a bit of Nigel Lappin about him. With 30 touches, 9 tackles and 7 clearances this was an exceptional display that saw him get the better of his more fancied opponent Scott Thompson. Jack received the CGU Unsung Hero nomination for this game.

He remains possibly the least known of the Three R’s yet his contribution for the year suggests that might change,
·1st in contested possessions
·2nd in uncontested possessions
·1st in clearances
·1st in tackles
·1st in handballs
·4th in marks
·4th in kicks

His game has become more complete this year. I was surprised to see that his effective disposal percentage had only risen from 71% last year to 74% in 2012. I had thought he was clearly better this year and that it was a dramatic improvement. He has become quite damaging around the ground and in particular with his inside fifty entries. He also seems to have developed his left foot and now seems comfortable off both feet, where in the past I thought he always looked to turn onto his right.

Unfortunately I cannot place which game it was, but Jacks best moment in 2012 for me came at a boundary throw late in the year. He tapped the ball over his head to put Daniel Rich in the clear, it was footy smarts at its best, and skill wise it was simply stunning.

Jack capped off season 2012 by winning the Members Player of the Year Award and joining the club greats, Simon Black, Luke Power and Jonathon Brown as past winners.

Without a doubt, Jacks biggest accolade for this year came from his team mates, when he won The Player’s Player Award. A fitting tribute from those that Jack "goes to war with every week".

Thanks for the year Jack, you are a star.
