I've watched Jack Watts closely since he got drafted ahead of Nic Nat, it always seemed for me the reason of lack of performance is his mental health, I don't think he believed that he deserved to be number one and the expectations to perform were so high it that it killed him mentally, being in a struggling Melbourne team also does not help.

Hes starting to believe, I think he'll prove a lot of haters wrong.

I dont think he can prove the haters wrong at this point. Hindsight 20/20, There's no way you'd take him before pick 30. Not putting a line through his career, just saying that he went too high for a project KPP.

His confidence issues should have been revealed during his interviews with the clubs. I think Melbourne didnt do their due diligence when selecting him.

I reckon he's now starting to create headaches for the opposition which is a sign that the penny may have finally dropped.

Was definitely one of the players of the NAB challenge and has only carried that form into round 1.

He played 2 good quarters and 2 bad ones
When he played well in the 1st and last we kicked 11 goals
In the middle he was quiet and we kicked 1

Now he isnt a brownlow contender but he is becoming far more important than people realise

yep. only just turned 25, so the best part of his career is still to come. plenty of footballers have broken out to elite status at around this age. confidence in your own ability is huge IMO. sometimes the penny just drops and away you go, works on a team level as well.

Has shown glimpses previously (even got a couple of Brownlow votes) but then he proceeds to stink it up for the next month then ask to be dropped to the reserves.

Complete and utter failure as a number one pick and will go down as the worst player drafted at that position

Lol. Remember richard Lounder?

The way he asserted himself on the contest yesterday was really pleasing. Took marks, went in hard and kicked a vital goal. What more would you want from a forward flanker? He would get a game at most sides. He will never be the hulking 50+ a year goal kicker but he doesn't need to be that player at Melbourne anymore. They just need class and he could definitely be that sort of player if he gets it right above his shoulders.

If I remember correctly when he was drafted the main talking points about him was that he had this real potential for leadership. Probably missed the boat there but if he plays like he did yesterday then he deserves a spot. Overall a disappointing #1 pick though he was always meant to be a lot more

Pretty much what I was going to post (except I would have said "they" not "we")

Yes he will prove the haters wrong 8 years later, please! Think that ship sailed a few thousand days ago. Needs to prove it to himself and get on with it

He's so frustrating because you see glimpses every now and then, and he certainly looked the goods as a junior. Maybe Simon Goodwin's increased coaching role is bringing the best out of him.

He seems like the sort of bloke that responds well to only specific people and either gets intimidated and/or goes into his shell around others.

He has played like this at the start of years in the past and then disappeared again. Id wait to see if he is still producing at the halfway mark to see if he can become a consistently good player.

Also where is the poll???

I haven't seen him play with the confidence he did yesterday ever before. Early days of course but he looked like he could be a good player, instead of looking like he could be just a player.

Both Watts & Hogan demanded the footy and with it, the responsibility of winning the game.
Not anything new for Hogan but it felt like a big step for Jack. He had a real presence and composure yesterday that filtered through to his teammates.

Had an excellent final term yesterday. Hope he can get some consistency going this year, would like to see what he's capable of when settled and confident.
