I know he gets a few soft runs and wickets against minnows, but his numbers regardless are quite stunning...

11,449 runs at 55.84 in tests, 11002 runs at 45.84 in ODIs, 267 wickets at 32 (was a 140km/hr plus bowler 12/13 years ago, now he's a military medium pace relief bowler) and 259 ODI wickets at 31.90...

even if you shave 10% of his stats for butchering the minnows he still stands as one of the great all rounders, averages 41 with the bat against aus (by comparison AB averaged 40 against the windians and 33 against the boks althouth that was at the twilight of his career and no one holds that against him for his overall career of outstandingness (made up word a bit)

Like you said...He gets alot of cheap runs against the minnows. I think he really struggles away from home. Last night, he was facing part timers like Tendulkar and Raina. Has he ever made a test century over here?

What a stupid statement. Just dumb.

Yes - he has two Test centuries here. He also has hit 18 of his 38 centuries away from home. Massive struggles.

Separately, he also got to his 100 facing India's frontline bowlers. So what if he faced Raina and Tendulkar on the way to the 200? They were trying to get him out - just like when England bowls Collingwood. Tendulkar is not a half-bad bowler.

I guess we should just invalidate every batsman who makes a 100 when part-time bowlers are involved.

One of the more ridiculous posts of the week.

From Rodney Hogg
"Kallis is a flat-track bully, who dishes it out to the minnows like Bangladesh and Zimbabwe but goes missing against the Australians"

"He is a selfish Cricketer"

When comparing him to Gary Sobers..
"Sobers played more than half of his Tests against England and Australia, whereas Kallis has picked up around 1000 runs and 40 wickets against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. They shouldn't count.

Great player, but usually scores his runs very slowly and not pretty to watch. Stats don't say everything, he is not as hurtful as Tendulkar, Lara, and Ponting, but is a great accumulater and probably one of the great allrounders.

Kallis is a great cricketer with a great record...he also has acheived something ponting never has - runs in india. ricky has a poor record in india over 14 years of test cricket, and only 1 century. kallis averages 58 with 3 centuries

he is up there with the great cricketers of our generation, but in my opinion is in the tier below tendulkar, lara and ponting...has lost a lot of pace now with his bowling due to injury etc but 10 years ago he was a genuine all rounder bowling quality outswingers at a decent pace

I still think Kallis dosent get the respect he deserves in Aus the guy is a gun, I dont understand why people call him boring i know he is pretty slow at scoring his runs, but he has a fantastic technique and most of his cricket shots are text book.

Also its not his fault that they play sides like Zim and Bangladesh u could take away his stats from playing countrys like that and he would still have a fantastic record.

aye he averages about 40 against aus, this is during the period of one Australia's great periods of domination. By comparison AB averaged 40 against the Windians during their period of domination. shave 10% of his batting average and its still 50... As for slow batting, M Hussey is a godsend in our middle order with his patient accumulation.

He didn't bowl more than a couple of overs during the early part of this decade due to injury. Also when you had donald, Fannie D'Villiers? (sp), ntini and Pollock there wasn't much need often.

I could just as easily quote some other w***er savaging Ponting.

What's your point? Sore that your ridiculous statement got put in its place?

i mean his first test hundred was agaist Australia, at the MCG, in the 4th innings, saving SA from defeat. jesus christ.

i'm picking him in a team before ponting, lara and sachin.

well maybe not that good, but certainly a great batsman and a very good bowler.

would be a walk in start at any part of his career in the Australian line up on his batting prowess alone, and before restricted by injury i think he got his first 150 odd wickets at 28ish.

I'd pick him before Ponting, not sure about Lara, last night was good to watch

Okay my coment was over the top but in a team before Sachin? Thats too far.

World XI middle over the last decade would include all 4, sachin, lara, punter and Kallis.

250 runs just going off the averages, with sachin and Kallis offering handy party time bowling...not that there'd be many other batsman left outside their calibre.

One of the greatest all rounders of all time, if he had of played with us during the Warne era his average would be close to 60 with the bat and under 30 with the ball.

When looking back at Test Cricket i'd be surprised if anyone had Ponting ahead of Kallis. HE is a true superstar.

Take out the 13 tests he has had against Bangaldesh and Zimbabwee and he still averages 54 and bowls at 35 a simply stunning record and people who say that they shouldn't count even if they don't those figures are unbelievable.

He averages 68 vs. India and nearly 60 in india. Something Ponting could never do. Has scored 16 100's out of 34 away (of course still not including BAN/ZIM) and takes nearly as many wickets away as at home.

A true legend, bats as well as Ponting and bowls so much better obviously.

My sentiments exactly. Not denigrating Ponting at all, he'd still be in the World XI for the last ten or fifteen years. But given a choice between the two I'd rank Kallis higher.

People also forget what a terrific slip he is. 5th all time l think?

Not sure why comparisons are always with other bats, the guy is a deadset all rounder. As a mate pointed out recently "According to the ICC Player Ratings, Big Jacques has been rated number one all rounder in Tests for nine years and has never been out of the top three for twelve years. His batting average exceeds his bowling average by almost 25 runs, as compared to Sobers (24), Botham (5), Imran Khan (15) and Kapil Dev (2). Just for good measure, his excess average in ODIs is an equally preposterous 14".

Sobers is a God of course but Kallis is ahead of those other legendary all rounders.

His stats are almost as good as his wife
