The main issues here I suppose are

1. Is Palmer excess to our needs (Can we afford to lose him)
2. Is Palmer already gone or likely to leave.

At this stage

1. You could make an argument
2. Who knows

Offering a group of average or fringe players for quality is only thrown around on message boards, it has little credibility in the real world (Especially recently).

I agree you don't build a winning culture by trading or offering champion players, but let's not kid ourselves, champions don't come along every season for the right asking price the majority of our list would be put on the table.

Just an "it is understood" line, but it's from Mark Duffield who's not too bad & it's something that bodes well for us..

O'Meara's appeal goes beyond his silky football skills. He tested so impressively at the AIS, drilling out three 2.88sec. 20m sprints and a 14.3 beep test in heat-wave conditions, that an AIS staffer suggested he try athletics instead of playing football.

It is understood the teenager has fended off initial overtures from Collingwood and wants to remain in WA.

:)

As an AFL/AIS academy member, O'Meara got a chance to train with an AFL club for a week. Collingwood asked him to come over and train with them, but he ended up sticking with Fremantle. Which really was the logical choice for a 16 year old, given it was just one week of training.

I wouldn't be reading all that much into a 16 year old not wanting to go interstate to do what he could do at home.

Beg to differ Chris, I think a lot of 16 year olds would look upon it as an adventure, and you can be sure that Collingwood would have laid out an exciting (for want of a better word) itinerary for Jaegar (and his family) that would have gone beyond a simple guided tour of their facilities.

Remember, Collingwood would have few opportunities to bring on their marketing, so would seize their chances where they could.

But, just to be sure, (as it has been several millenia since I was a teenager) I consulted with my two 16 year old nephews, who were suitably impressed (I could tell by the way they grunted and that they looked up from Halo Reach).

That my friend, is an achievement in itself.

My young bloke is all of 13, and spent the best part of the cats game texting his mate, ( who was probably watching anyway ) when i told him to put the phone in his pocket, he gave me that " WTF, are you from Mars ? " look

Bless the little ****ers
