I don't know anything except what others, usually ITK'S have said that we really rate Mathieson and would draft him with our first round dp.

And you are entitled to your opinion. No worries. Just thought I should try to mitigate you dissapointment with the way I see it.

Rose coloured? Maybe. But that's me always hoping for the best when it comes to the Saints☺
 
A bit difficult to get too upset about drug use when you see how much govt agencies are involved in the global drug trafficking business.
Why you would then video yourself doing it is beyond me #Stupidity

With you on this, I would rather have gone to the draft with 5 & 24. Keep bringing in the best young kids we can.
Don't think Carlisle is all that good JUST MY OPINION ;)

I am not criticising those who thought we paid over for Jake, I'm criticising those who are talking about abandoning footy or the Saints cos we recruited someone with 'drug issues'

In Principle we could have packaged 24 and our third rounder for pick 14 and gone in with 5 and 14.

Now that he is a Saint I hope he is the best CHB in the AFL for the next 10 years, more then happy that pick 5 & 24 are proven to be a bargain for him
 
Hey guys, just been thinking, and it may have already been mentioned earlier in the thread. But, I think there is a chance that this video could be the best thing to happen for both the club and for Carlisle.

If it didn't come out, he would have still done the drugs, but he would have gotten away with it. He would have had no reason to change his behavior.

So he's been caught. He's been publicly shamed, and he knows there is nothing more certain than that he'll be working for absolutely everything at his new club. There are no excuses.

He's at the crossroads of his career. He's got talent, now he has to show whether or not he has character. If he doesn't have the right character now, he never had it in the first place, video or no video.

Mathematics. We have five senior list spots to fill: Freeman, Carlisle, Pick 14, Rice, Sinclair. There was no room to pick somebody at 24. Hell, we're going to have to delist somebody like Faz and rookie him as it is, to fit those five in.
 
Aflpa think mcconville has done nothing wrong, but would support st kilda in seeking an investigation of they want one.

All water under bridges now, but the article on the afl site mentions that mcconville sought their advice regarding the matter. I don't believe that he was ignorant to the content of the video.

I probably wouldnt pursue it much more from here

Agreed. We've renegotiated his contract. Time to let this thing die via silence. Serves no-one pursuing it.
 
Just to add to the above post. The discussion on The Back Page revolved around the Saints being totally blindsided, with Damien Fleming saying Carlisle owed the Saints "BIG TIME" and the change at the Saints in two years has been huge.
Culminated on Tony Squires hopi g that the Saints culture would pull Carlisle into line.

Bet you never thought you would live to hear St.Kilda and culture being spoken about positively.

I've been quietly laughing at all the media reports, suggesting that Carlisle may go alright at a new club with good culture.
Is no-one else picking up on the veiled insult to Essendon. ( well its not really an insult if its true though ).

I still reckon it's partly to do with the access the media get under Finnis. Journos love free stories and our media department feeds them heaps. They give great access and they put up a heap of promo stuff. Having a positive view of the club can make a huge difference to how stories are reported. When you get positive stories they write how different the culture is instead of how dysfunctional we are. Ross' closed door bubble shat the media off and made us look cocky and arrogant.

Add to that the other piece of the puzzle, which is us creating a lot of our own media, under our own control. Examples include the Futurefest, the Richo "we're through!" audio, etc. The wider media is more than happy to seagull off ours, and that's great, because it's stuff that WE'VE designed to help with our brand.

For every piece of footage we release that show us in a positive light, there's probably plenty that show us in not so great a light - we're all human, and so I'm sure Richo has sat in the box during a loss and said in the frustration of the moment, "Ah, bugger it! That stupid kid! I'm sick of this crap!" or whatever. That's okay, he's human. My point is, the media get positive footage by us, because we're generous in giving it to them, which will draw their attention away from looking for as much negative stuff.

Apart from Fitzy, it tends to be more your thinking person's show. At least, relatively speaking. Which means the dingbats in the media that shout the loudest, sadly, don't watch it :D
