Jake Kelly not Selected...

Well i don't think we can father/son in the rookie draft, but i reckon we might take a punt and grab him with one of our picks.

New Rules say you can and The Kid will be your last pick in the Rookie Draft:D

Love the FS rule but not sure he fits our list now with Scharenberg and Langdon added.

If Gault has been promised a rookie spot he gets the last one. Personally I would have liked us to go with Conlon.

Given that last night Derek Hine has stated that Hudson will be the nominated rookie what does all that mean.....I get very confused around list spots at this stage of the game.

39 senior listed players only leaves room for 5 rookie spots...
Frost
Martin
Yagmoor
Hudson
Gault - already promised the spot and going on 1st-4th years camp in 2 weeks time...
(Mooney is international rookie)

No room for Kelly

Yagmoor might be packing his bags.

Hine said that "we have one rookie spot left". That will either be Gault or Kelly one would imagine, unless we delist Yagmoor.

I'd love to see Martin get more opportunity....I really think he has something to offer at the top level but gee we have good depth!

Loving the look of our VFL side already along with the thrill of seeing so many new players in the B & W.

Dale who??

Do we have to delist a player though? Hine said "Hudson will be our nominated rookie, leaving us with 1 pick in the rookie draft".

How many many veterans do we have; anyone??

Each club is allowed to maintain a list of up to six eligible players, whilst Brisbane and Sydney can list a maximum of nine. Up to three rookies can be retained, with the players permission for a second or third season,[3] with the others having to be either delisted or elevated to the primary list at the time of the National Draft. Only half of the salary paid by a club to players on the rookie list counts towards the league's salary cap.
Generally speaking, a rookie-listed player cannot be selected to play in the senior AFL competition, and must play in state-level affiliated teams, except in two circumstances:
  • At the start of a season, a club can nominate up to two veterans from its senior list for salary cap reasons; if a team does not have a full quota of veterans, it can make up the balance by nominating rookies to be eligible for senior selection. These players are known as nominated rookies.

^ On the question of veterans, the new amendment to the veteran rules have abolished the old "must be 30 years of age" requirement, so it is now simply 10 years of service at a club. So you can become a veteran effectively at 28 after being drafted at 18.

For us, it would be Maxwell and Swan.

Yagmoor might be packing his bags.

I can't work it out? I'm not taking the pi$$ but I must be missing something? Under Bucks we've been quite aggressive in turning the list over and getting rid of dead wood. Picking up Russell, giving him 2 years and then after 1 year giving him the boot is a great example. So how is Yags still there? Sure he has a lovely kicking action but geez when I've seen him in the 2nds I seriously can't imagine him giving a permanent shake for the best 22? To be honest IMO I don't even think of him as a fringe player.

He must be a cracking bloke or something to remain doesn't he?

I believe Russell only had a 1 year deal
Yags is a rookie, no real issue in keeping him or delisting him, not much hangs on it either way

No room for Kelly

If Gault was promised then Hine would have said we are taking him instead of "we'll have one pick in the rookie draft" last night

May not be room for promises to Gault or Kelly if a Conlon is still there

I was under the impression that we had committed to taking Kelly as a F/S rookie if he got through the draft. So the way I see it is we are taking Kelly as our one rookie, if we want to re-rookie Gault then we must delist another rookie first. Is someone able to clear this up?

I'd rather see Kelly on the list before Yags. Has got size and looks fairly coachable. I don't know how much more we'll get from Yags

I'd prefer Kelly ahead of Gault and Yagmoor, Jake has way more upside than either of them and while he may not make it at senior level the fact he's a premiership players son has to be considered IMO.

I don't care what we've "promised" to Gault or Yagz, delist one now (or don't rookie Gault) and put Kelly on the rookie list please.
