I know he has differing opinions about him but i am one of those people who cant quite put a finger on what i think about him. I enjoy it how he runs hard doesnt take a backward step, yet i hate how he is unaccountable back pocket player who makes kicking errors and can't spoil small forwards. So atm i am sick to death of it tbh and I just dont know what to do with him. Should we drop him? On effort definately not! On output possibly.

Lets just have a brief look at what he has done so far this season.

Rnd 1: 8 Kicks 16HB cant remember who he was on but was fantastic.
Rnd 2: 9 Kicks 5HB Corey Jones 7 goals, Shannon Grant 4 goals
Rnd 3: 13 Kicks 14HB Got smashed by Thomas early then moved of and was good enough
Rnd 4: 16 Kicks 10HB Very good whole side was.
Rnd 5: 11 Kicks 10HB made some shocking errors late on
Rnd 6: 13 Kicks 16HB Had it too many times it hurt us.
Rnd 7: 10 Kicks 9HB Milne gave him a bath
Rnd 8: 15 Kicks 11HB Chapman and Gamble together made him look extremely dumb.

I just dont know what to do with this bloke half of me says drop him and give someone like JON a go whilst the other says keep him in.

For mine, hes been similar to how Raines went when he first started. Unique style of player, ran the lines and tough and hard at it.

Then, started turning it over after the ego boost. Its amazing.

I call him the Turnover King now, unfortunately.

Yeah but Raines somewhat held his man and stuck to his job. For mine Raines>King. Raines held Mark Ricciuto one day to absolutely nothing and then TW thought why dont we play him on Riewoldt and other 190+ cm power forwards. I thought before he hurt his knee was showing some of the form we saw in 06'. I have no doubt he will come back in as our no.1 small backman as Newman is more of a rebounder. King just infuriates me sometimes. I think if we keep king in then put him up forward and see how he goes will increase pressure and may do ok.

This is a joke thread right ? Not only is Jake one of the only blokes to get down and dirty and win the ball but he has the courage to back himself and always does the 1%'s.

Turnover king ? He had 3 clangers today, exactly what the hell were you watching?

Not just the turnovers mate. Look at the goals he leaks. His opponent was at times Chapman and at times Gamble they kicked 6 goals today. I know he does the 1%s but do they even themselves out with the goals he cost us?

He may turnover the ball, but it's because he's trying to create something. Although the fact that he concedes the amount of goals he does, is a big concern. Stick fat with him though IMO!

I dont see it that way, i dont think he leaks goals at all. Its hard for the best of the best to stop A1 delivery let alone having to do it every bloody quarter. You said it yourself his opponents were at "times " those two. Just like he wasnt on Grant or Corey or Milne for the whole game.

I think his place is better suited to the midfield with his pace and ball winning ability (not to mention his great kicking to forwards cant figure out why its daylight between defensive and attacking delivery). I honestly think your negativity is better served somewhere else. Jakey has helped get this club to see its going in hard thats going to get things done.

I understand what you are saying i love the guys endevour etc.etc. He wont be a midfielder though i think most would agree with me on that. He was trialed as a tagger all throughout the pre-season but certainly hasnt eventuated maybe because Raines went down so he has had to go down back and fill the void.

No doubt he goes in hard sets a good example but i think he needs a serious rocket.

I agree that he needs to improve and tighten up, definately needs more defense coaching if thats where he will stay. I think its really the pressure our backmen are under, its insane. In a better side he would likely be up there with the best. But they are the breaks, Yellow and Black forever.

Agree TH :thumbsu:........I'd rather have 4 more Kingy's than none at all.

I lol'd when i read this poll option.

Today was obviously wet and that took away his ability to bounce on the run.

He struggles without the freedom of bouncing on the run,or threatening to bounce on the run.

he's a momentum player as well and the above mentioned kills his ability to generate.

For a small guy, probably not a wet weather player but defnitely a 22er and an early catalyst
in showing hardenss for 4 quarters - something i believe we have benefited greatly from.

Stick around Jake.

He needs to start playing when he first came into the team.

He was so much better then, he held his man and disn't make many mistakes, he looked to be the small defender we had been crying out for, but know he is a completly different player, and its not for the best

I think he's got ahead of himself a little bit.

I would keep him in the team, but tell him to man up when we ain't got the ball.

ive been pleased with kingy but why not try him on the wing or on the ball he has amazing speed and get's down and dirty and finds plenty of the ball. his lack of height is less likely to be exploited. is it worth a punt.

Except Raines has absolutely no awareness and brings rain every time he kicks the ball. Kingy has good skills but goes for a bit too much sometimes, he still is pretty reliable imo. Kingy doesn't get caught in the same dumb situations that Raines seems to always find himself in.

Can't believe some people are turning on him, bona fide defensive roles aren't his go, what the hell was he doing on Chapman, the brick shithouse personified, anyway? Gamble also had him covered well and truly. It's true he can be exploited as a defender, so maybe he needs a different role but definately should be in the side.

People are asking for him to be dropped? WTF.

He gives his all each and every week.

Crap thread :thumbsd:
Definately crap thread!!

I just think loosing raines has bought jake back a little bit beacuse raines was a little bit more accountable on a forward then what jake is. However jesus wouldnt even contemplate dropping him

Id rather him get the occasional turnover when hes actually trying something than crap hospital handpasses that are 'efficient' for the statsman.

Terry should simply stop playing him on the best small forward

I'm going to throw something up for discussion. When Raines returns we move King into the forward line and here are a couple of reasons I think it would work:

1. King loves to attack the man and the ball and shows little fear throwing himself into the fray. We have been crying out for a small forward who will apply pressure when the ball hits the ground. I think King would be great in this role. Also he loves to take a shot at goal.

2. Raines is a more accountable defender who can be given a role and will stick to it, in that he will make sure his opponent does not get the ball before trying to run off and create. We can't continue to run around with 3 attacking hbf/bp who run off their opponent at every opportunity and when the turnover happens get caught out time and again.
