Seems like there’s a genuine effort at the club to not only identify talent in the draft picks, but to help keep these talents as long-term players. Really important in a rebuild to keep them for as long as we can, instead of losing talents a la Lever, Cameron, McGovern etc.

I can actually see Soligo as well as Rachele being match winners like the 3 names in the above. Both of them have really good footskills and genuine footy smarts. Both are in my top 2 youngsters that I’m keen to see how they’d fare by 50 games.
I actually see a little bit of kane johnson in soligo's play. Very early days but like johnson, soligo seems to have a little bit of time when he gets the ball and is a pretty good user by hand and foot. If he ends up that type of player we will have a ripper

The fact that we got a multiple year contract extension for both sog and Rachelle before the season shows someone at the club can identify talent.
My concern is more about what we now do with that talent. I really don't want them to be players who come into their first year looking like they have enormous talent and potential and then get vanilla-ised (not Vanilla Iced :P) by our coaching and development.

Got roasted on Bounce for not passing to Murphy in the goalsquare. Got called Jack Salargo or some such. Not that you watch Bounce for any sort of journalistic standard or credibility but I feel if you are going to pot a bloke you at least get his name right.

Yeah that wasn’t his best moment, from memory Fog scored a goal directly from the throw in from Jakes kick so it didn’t end up costing us but you’d want him making that pass in the future. Probably a good learning moment for him.

Jake went the safe option, faked going for goal to get the throw in. He was worried Murphy would fluff the mark and dribble through for a point.

If any of us saw Murphy streaming towards goal we'd have blazed away too. Absolutely the percentage play in that scenario.

Found it pretty interesting to compare the seasons stats between Jake Soligo with Ned McHenry below. Fairly similar output thus far, not sure if that's great news for Ned spot in the best 22 going forward though.

How is he so strong and where is his weight? 80kg for 180cm isn't far off where you'd want to be. He still looks skinny though.
Surprised McHenry is only 73kg. Doesn't look particularly slight for his height but he's only 2cm and 2kg bigger than Parnell who looks like he could be playing the Auskick at half time.

The thing that’s the stats don’t really show is that Soligo is a lot better kick and his vision is elite. Wimait for a few years and Soligo will improve on every stat where McHenry will be about the same

His first 2 games in R1 and R2 (medical sub) were extremely poor, he only had 5 and 2 disposals.

This kid just keeps getting better and better and what an elite kick. I think he will be a star in a few years.

How good was that fens off and kick to Tex 🤩
Soligo is a really clever footballer, gets to the front of the packs and racks them up.
And his running capacity is huge for a young guy

If you look at their last 5-6 games played then you can see that Soligo is getting significantly more possessions and having a bigger impact. Encouraging when these are only games 7-12 for young Soligo, but 40-45 for McHenry.

Both have had 5 x 15+ disposal games to date in their AFL careers. This took Soligo 12 games to reach. It took McHenry 38 games to reach with his last being against St Kilda in R10 this year.
