Scary stuff if the USA turn on the saudis...

The Saudis might be forced to give some of their own up over this. What else are they getting away with under cover in their embassies?

The Turks don't mind telling porkies and I'm not right up on the technology but is it possible there might be audio of Jamal's death via his Apple watch?

Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist-in-exile, frequent critic of the ruling House of Saud, and Washington Post columnist, went missing after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2. Since then, Turkish government officials largely speaking under the cover of anonymity have insisted that Saudi security forces waiting in ambush inside tortured and murdered him in revenge for speaking freely about their autocratic rulers.

Now, a Turkish newspaper (albeit one often described as a mouthpiece for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government) has published a report claiming that Khashoggi recorded his death using an Apple Watch — though there are some major holes in the story.

Per CNN, the Daily Sabah reported that Khashoggi turned on the wearable device to record his interactions inside, with the events of his alleged murder picked up by the watch and later synced to his iCloud as well as an iPhone he left with his fiancé outside:

Yeah the Apple Watch part seems a stretch: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-45859969

If there is audio, either the Turks have a source in the embassy or they've got the embassy bugged.

EDIT: Ooops, wrong link: https://www.b bc.com/news/technology-45857777 (remove space, keeps autoformatting)

Equally momentous story though.

EDIT 2: Or just click it because it works now, stupid BigFooty.

EDIT 3: I didn't mean that, BigFooty. I love you.

Very interesting though. If it's a reasonable proposal that the Turks can hack his Apple watch to use as a recording device, an investigative journalist might find his way around it. More likely though as you say, the embassy is bugged and they heard the whole thing including the bone saws.

That situation does not appear to have changed - in other words, you can't use an Apple Watch to connect to the internet in Istanbul unless it is paired to a nearby iPhone.

Now what we don't know is whether the Turkish security services had managed to hack the Apple Watch to turn it into a remote recording device which they then supplied to Jamal Khashoggi before he entered the Saudi consulate.

But it seems far more likely that they have other means of detecting what foreign diplomats are up to and the Apple Watch story is just useful cover.

The Saudis must be cornered, they killed him. Ruthless bastids.

Saudi Arabia are preparing a report that will acknowledge that Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi's death was the result of an interrogation that went wrong, CNN reports, citing two sources.

According to two sources, the interrogation was one that was intended to lead to his abduction from Turkey.

One source says the report will likely conclude that the operation was carried out without clearance and transparency and that those involved will be held responsible.

I like your thinking but you wouldn’t fit too many people in a Hawk. If it was a Hawk.

Thought we might have had the official Saudi narrative by now but there can be no appeasement regardless of what version of events is put forward it seems they're caught cold.

All they can do is offer up some government officials who have outlived their usefulness, say they acted ‘Rogue’ & pin the blame on them.
A dozen public beheadings later and the world is appeased, Trump is happy and everyone is having cake together in the Oval Office again.

They're still working on the 'rogue assassins' narrative but that has a problem apparently, the killers have known ties to the Crown Prince. There's pictures.

The arrogance of the Saudis is breathtaking.

They have to be punished over this, but they’ll **** the global economy if anything happens.

And they claim Qatar is a regional terrorist.

There are no rogue assassins, could be the arrogance and brutality of a rogue Prince whose power has gone to his head. Mohammed bin Salman?

Will be interesting what comes out of the investigation with Pompeo being dispatched to Saudi Arabia. To give another point of view Germany's right wing news paper says Khashoggi was a high level operative for Saudi Intelligence, nephew of shady arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi, was close to Osama Bin Laden and a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The presumed-dead Khashoggi was a top-level spook who swore fealty to some of the Arab world's nastiest elements, and who played a high-stakes game in Saudi spookdom. He was media officer of former intelligence chief Prince Turki Bin Faisal Al Saud.

Among other things, we know that Khashoggi was bitterly opposed to the new Saudi government's rapprochement with the state of Israel. As a Muslim Brotherhood member, he backed Palestinian intransigence.

The American Establishment media either ignores or distorts the relevant facts. The Muslim Brotherhood is a "democratic movement," according to the Wall Street Journal's write-up on Jamal Khashoggi:

Oh how revolting ... one of the assassins, I assume the Saudis forensic pathologist who brought his own bone saw trained in Melbourne.

A doctor suspected of killing and dismembering dissident Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi trained at the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine in Melbourne after being sponsored by the Saudi Government.

Dr Salah al-Tubaigy was identified by Turkish authorities as one of 15 men present in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2, when Khashoggi is suspected to have been assassinated.

Wary here of the Saudis propaganda machine (it's ramped up on sm) exaggerating Khashoggi's complicated history and family connections as if to suggest he asked for it. He cut his ties with the Muslim Brotherhood quite some time ago and living in the US in self exile but I think he was right, the Muslim Brotherhood did start out promoting a democratic movement.

Regardless, the Saudis are out of control and their barbarity can't be ignored any longer imo. They lessen us all.
