I love Kells & think he's had a super year but for a midfielder the tackling stat is misleading, yes it shows he's committed & adding a lot of pressure but it also shows that he's second to the ball a lot.

Cats tackles

Kelly 160
Selwood 105
Chapman 94
Bartel 86
Corey 80

I remember looking at it mid year and he had double any other cat - Selwood's suspension helped there. Will need another big game from Kelly tonight with no Corey.

What??? Kelly has had an amazing year....defo in the running for the B&F.

2nd to the ball my arse! He has had that many 2nd and 3rd attempts for the ball it is untrue! Works hard and doesn't give up! You don't make AA for not getting the ball! :thumbsu:

Agreed. He wins plenty of the ball himself, I don't think being second to the ball is his problem. He's just a tough hombre who has no problems at all being physical when the opposition has it. Really rounds out our midfield beautifully.

No it means he sticks his tackles.

He gets as much of the pill as other blokes with lower tackling stats.

In some cases it might mean you're second to the ball but it's not really the case with Kelly.

I'm non too plussed if none of the other 5 nominated Geelong players are awarded AA this year but would be mighty peeved if Kel is overlooked. Has been consistently good for a number of seasons, and I liken his progress to Joel Corey, who used to fly under the radar before his contribution was acknowledged in the wider football community.

Kel is not only committed to tackling players but has the ability to keep his feet when he himself is tackled, and give off the ball to a team mate.
