How did u guys rate his game today? I thought he did some good things today. Won a few good clearances and laid some very good tackles, but still didn't have a whole lot of the ball. Do you think he's turned the corner yet? Or still too early to tell?

Considering Its his first game in a month I thought he was great. His deffensive pressure is inspiring to the side.

Kelly did some good things today - earned his place in the side. Silly to be too critical in his first game back so overlook the errors - more apparent on the replay. He will find tougher opposition next week in Launceston.

Will probably struggle for another week or two till he gets up to speed. Wont get dropped., not too many will

I thought today was the most desperate I've ever seen him look. A few times he actually chased guys down from behind and won frees with textbook tackles. Looks like he knows his career is on the line. Hasn't cemented his spot but pretty good game I thought. Nice to see him hit targets for a change too.

Agree, was good to see him being decisive when he got the pill. Made his presence felt when on the field, which was only about 60% of the game.Good first up effort.

He looked slow to me. But he has missed a few games and should be given a few weeks to get his match fitness back. But have to think our midfield has looked good without him. He only had about 15 posessions for the game so not a bad day, not a great one. Did some good 1%er's. Interesting stat is that he has never collected over 30 posessions in a match.

Switched across field inside defensive 50 and nearly coughed it up with Melbourne players swooping, but the ever steady Mark Blake took a solid mark and steadied the situation :p

My thoughts exactly.

i have been harsh on him but his desperation yesterday was commendable, at least showed he wanted to be in the team. though his foot skills havent improved.

I thought pretty much the same.

Defensively there was an improvement (as there was with the majority of the side), but his disposal was pretty ordinary.

His disposals weren't that bad, but he kept kicking sideways it to Blake. He needs to look who he's kicking it to first...

Kelly has more talent/potential than most going around in the AFL. We all agree his attitude and effort has prevented him from reaching his full level in the past. To have his desperation to be commended means he is on the track every geelong fan wants him to be on. :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:
First game back you expect him to be a bit slow and rusty but if James Kelly shows that desperation he did yeaterday he will be a very very very handy player this year. ;)

I've pumped him up a bit in other threads. He has looked the goods in the pre-season, which is great.

In his past couple of years (post broken leg), he has missed that despiration at the ball, he looked out of sorts when having to go in hard for the ball. This probably lead to his broken leg in the first place.

So it is great to see him get back amonst it. I rate the guy, and if he continues in this form, we may see a massive improvement of J Kelly.
