'James Sutherland played 4 first class matches between 1990/91 and 1992/93 and was 12th man on another four occasions as well, including the Bushrangers' victorious 1990/91 Sheffield Shield Final at the MCG. His record of 54 runs @ 13.50 and 9 wickets @ 39.78 included best figures of 2/23 at the Junction Oval against Queensland in 1990/91 in the win that set up the Vics' appearance in the Final. In 9 one-day matches, James scored 28 runs @ 9.33 and took 12 wickets @ 26.75, with best figures of 3/26 against WA at the MCG in 1992/93. '

This is the bloke that reckons the Selectors didn't get it wrong.
Good record, I'd be listening to him over Warnie most days.

Even Hilditch admitted it was a mistake not to play Hauritz, and he's patently useless.

Well the point is we have muppets running the show who have a large say on what goes on.
We have Sutherland, Hilditch, Cox ,Merv & Boony. Now I give Boon & Merv respect, coz they deserve it, but the others.....
When we have disappointments like this there are a myraid of ex-players that come out and give their opinions.
I say to them, get on board in an official capacity !
Its not like we don't have the money FFS.

Its very relevant to me.
The modest record above shows me he doesn't have the mettle to be the boss.
I'd rather have someone who performed well in their career before taking over the game in this country.
I don't want a bloke who was a bit part player stand by the selectors, when blind freddie could tell you they've done a bad job for a long time now.
But, losing the Ashes was their coup de grace !

He's still a muppet. What about selectors, they're admin as well do you think that they should have mediocre records as well?
For the record, half of them do !!

His job is administrative, so his playing record is irrelevant.

Have you ever looked at Sutherland and asked yourself if this man is capable of running CA? The guy gets the shakes in front of the media, has botched many appointments, has no clue about future direction and refuses to ever make changes. He is clearly gun shy and absolutely the wrong person to be running the show. God knows how he got the job in the first place, but he is an embarassment to CA and is amongst the worst performed sporting executives that I have ever seen when it comes to presenting himself with the media (which i would have thought was a large part of his job). Time for a change, regardless of the recent Ashes result.

Whether Sutherland is the right man for the job is certainly a valid question, but his record as a player has nothing to do with it.

Agreed, but every time I see his name I can't help myself.... there are plenty of precedents where those with ordinary or no playing records make fantastic executives ie Wayne Jackson, Ross Oakley, John O'Neill, Greg Swann, Frank Lowy etc etc.

This must rank closely with the dumbest thread of the year.

How many coaches are/were scrubby back pocket players.

Of our wonderful swimming team one rarely heard of their coaches as gun swimmers.

How good an athlete was Peter Fortune, the coach of Cathy Freeman.

What has Sutherland's playing record got to do with his administrative abilities and cricket knowledge?

Whether Sutherland's doing the job well is another matter but his playing record has zippo to do with whether he can perform that administrative role.

ACB General Manager Commercial Operations

I think this is the record that is relevant to his job, some experience in cricket is probably helpful.

I wish people would stop acting as if Shane Warne is some sort of demigod. His credibility is getting less and less every day...
