Sounds like our rookie listed player James Turner is doing really well at the moment at South Adelaide. As a centre half back in the reserves he had 30 possessions on the weekend and in previous games he has had 20 plus possessions and 26 possies in another reserves game this year. In his league debut 2 weeks ago he had 16 possessions which is reasonable impressive for a debut game.

Does anyone else know much about this kid. Sounds like he is a real player of the future and worth looking at for our main list.

He's one of the many utility's we love to draft.

We lack quality utilities of that height. We've got a glut of 178-185cm players and not enough of the 186-190cm types - your Judds, Embleys etc, the tall midfield guys that can be thrown around at will to shake things up. These are the blokes that regularly cut us to pieces because we don't have equivalent types to match up on them all. I shouldn't even have to mention Hunter. :(

I think the intention is for McIntyre, Turner and Gallman to be the replacement for players like Basset, Massie, Torney and Ben Hart. These medium sized defenders who can play on taller opponents are very valuable to the structure of NC as he values a taller forward line. Although players like McIntyre, Turner, Gallman, Massie and Torney won't win Brownlow Medals, All Australian selections or Club Best and Fairests they often prove to be some of the most valuable players to the team.

Don't you think we should be looking at utilities like West Coast do? Rosa, Judd, Embley, Hunter, B. Jones, etc etc etc, these types who regularly give us match ups from hell.

By all means if we can pick up Chris Judd in the rookie draft we should do it:rolleyes:

I think it's sensible to go after players like this in the rookie draft and in the ND target blokes who are going to be kPP's or on ballers.

If we could get some utility types like that into the side there would be much to be gained when trying to combat the likes of Embers and Huntaa, that's for sure. Hinge is of an appropriate size but would he have the leg speed to go with an Embley?

The two players highlighted I agree ...........Turner is a deadset forward .......has some very good marking and ground level skills and at 189cm is a good size and difficult matchup once some flesh goes on the skeleton.

If people are going to talk up Mackay then Turner is on a par .......he's also quickish for a tall and plays and looks like a lefty but ....

Both McIntyre and Gallman are good prospects

Turner has been tearing it up at CHB for South Ressies this year and when he got a league game he had 16 touches playing as a CHB.

yep good prospect .....learning how to play on more experienced forwards ....yep i know only reserves but i'd expect him to play defence in league soon .....deadset forwrd though .....reads the game very very well in the air and off hands

Watched the replay of South v West and paid close attention to Turner.

He’s listed at 78kg’s and for him to make it at AFL level he’ll need to add at least another 10-15 kg’s. He is out bodied far too easily in 1-on-1 contests. For instance he was pushed off the ball by two smaller opponents, one listed at 170cm, and they were both able to take the mark. He played up forward in the first quarter but didn’t have a disposal; he then played in the backline for the remainder of the game but struggled collecting a total of 4 possessions.

To be honest he looked out of his depth at SANFL level, and although he has been showing some impressive signs in the reserves you would think he’ll have to start looking a little more at home at league level to be re-rookied or promoted.

He doesn’t appear overly quick, and he seems to lumber along. As he’s so thin he failed to make a few tackles stick, some at crucial times. He does possess a good leap and if he can bulk up which remains to be seen, he could develop into a forward with that leap. I'm not sure what the AFC expect of him this season, but he's going to be required to add a lot more weight to his frame or else he won't make it. There's something to work with but he simply must put on weight.
