In defence of Nova Peris, she does have an olympic medal - in hockey. The running was a second-career sort of thing that wsn't as successful.
The thing with Pittman is that she's the only athlete of profile we have. Johnson, Vander-Kuypt (sp?), Shirvington, Gregoriava etc. all failed to qualify. So, the whole of the media looks to her for stories to fill the gap left by Cathy Freeman. And, it seems that you have to be a little bit crazy to be an athlete. You have to talk yourself up and get 'in the zone' to push yourself. We were spoiled with Freeman, because , whatever her faults, she was the epitome of the humble sportperson who kicked ass on the field (Australia's favourite sort of sportsperson).
It'd be nice if she shuts up, because if she has her ass handed to her in athens it's gonna be pretty hard for her in the future.

Since her divorce with Sean Kneebone her name is simply Nova Peris. She is now married to Daniel Batman, who was also an athlete. That coulda got messy .. Nova Peris Kneebone Batman!
I have nothing against Jana Pittman, she won at the Worlds which is an achievement. She just has to get the big one now but it won't be easy as she suddenly has some very good American competition. I'll still be cheering for her though.

Tamsyn goes real well for an Olympian. Athletes are a worry though. All they need to do is tense up a bit and they can do some serious damage to your manhood.
