You can have Benteke for 25 million if you want?
You can also have Benteke for 25 million... if you stay up. Otherwise he probs wont come.
Didn't know you were Benteke's agent jod :D

Probably could do worst if we could land him - not sure he'd be so keen on ending his LFC career so quickly though?

Agreed on Mitro, reckon he could have a real impact next season if they stick with him.

I'd actually say finding a right footed left winger who can score 10 goals a season would almost fit a bigger need for Newcastle (just someone to support Gini really).

Of course those type of players aren't easy to find either.
I can only see Mitro getting better with more time and experience in the PL - its just a worry that we might not have much time left (though I'm still pretty confident we'll avoid the drop at this stage). He's toned down his aggression and hasn't been racking up the cards either which is a bonus.

A winger would definitely not go a miss either. When you can consider we've played guys like Gouffran and Obertan wide at times, it shows we are definitely lack a player who can beat his man and whip in a good cross. That being said, I'm worried that if we get Townsend, he could be a bit of a mare. Apparently has barely played at all for Spurs so has some question marks over his match fitness and sharpness. Not to mention Levy sticking to his guns on the 14m price tag. I'm not saying he wouldn't improve us but at that price it is probably too much for a player who we'd need to have an immediate impact.

People said the same thing about Suarez with respect to the 49 goals he scored in 48 games in his final season in the Eredivisie prior to joining Liverpool. If he'd only scored 25-30 goals then that level of scepticism would probably have been warranted, but I think there comes a point where a player is scoring goals at such a phenomenal rate, you have to give credit to them almost regardless of what league they're in.

I wouldn't have thought he'd continue scoring at a goal per game if he moved to England or Germany, but I don't think there's any reason to think a forward with Teixeira's ability would struggle making the step up to a bigger league. I highly doubt he would drop to a goal every 4-5 games though, and I'm not quite sure which alternate reality that prediction is based in?

If you want a more relevant example you need only look at the 4-5 other Shakhtar players who have moved for big money in recent years. Far from struggling, the likes of Douglas Costa, Mkhitaryan, Fernandinho and Willian have flourished in a more competitive environment, and arguably Teixeira has been more impressive than any of them during his time at Shakhtar.
You and jod want goals though, 1 in 4-5 games is extremely realistic in the PL

Teixeira is not what I would consider a forward, he is an attacking mid, I consider Firminho an attacking mid also, but I see he's played upfront the last week, he could be converted perhaps

I wouldn't bother quoting the likes of Fernandinho as he's a holding mid, while Costa and Mkhitaryan play for the top teams in a vastly weaker league

Suarez is a striker who floats on the wing or at number 10 when he's not playing at number 9, Alexis Sanchez is similar in playing style when he plays upfront occasionally imo, those types of players generally do well in the PL, see Ronaldo, Mahrez, Bale also etc and Walcott has been prolific at times also.

Top attacking mids in the league, minimum requirement 50 PL apps (or close enough)

Ozil: 68 apps 12 gls, 1 in every 5 and a half games
Cazorla: 120 apps 23 gls, similar rate to Ozil
Oscar: 112 apps 21 gls, 1 in every 5 and a half
Barkley: 98 apps 14 gls, 1 in every 7
Lallana: 114 apps 18 gls, 1 in every 6.33
Coutinho: 98 apps 18 gls, 1 in every 5.4
Silva: 177 apps 35 gls, just over 1 in every 5
Nasri: 209 apps 35 gls, worse than Silva surprisingly
Mata: 150 apps, 37 gls, 1 in just over every 4, numbers were much better previously
Sigurdsson: 131 apps, 27 gls, 1 in every 4.85
Lamela: 64 apps, 5 gls, lol
Eriksen: 83 apps, 21 gls, just under 1 in every 4
Sessegnon: 152 apps, 24 gls, 1 in every 6.33

Top wingers/wide forwards in the league

Walcott, 224 apps, 53 gls, 1 in every 4.22
Sanchez, 48 apps, 22 gls, 1 in just over every 2
Willian: 82 apps, 9 gls, 1 in every 9
Hazard: 126 apps, 37 gls, 1 in every 3.4, numbers were way better before this season
Bolasie: 79 apps, 8 gls, 1 in just under every 10
Mirallas: 101 apps, 23 gls, 1 in just over every 4
Lennon: 292 apps, 28 gls, 1 in ever 10 and a half
Mahrez: 71 apps, 20 goals, 1 in every 3 and a half
Sterling: 116 apps, 23 gls, 1 in just over every 5
Navas: 86 apps, 4 gls, lol
Young (before being converted into a full back in 2014): 241 apps, 41 gls, 1 in every 5.87
Mane: 50 apps, 13 gls, 1 in just under every 4
Tadic: 52 apps, 10 gls, 1 in every 5.2
Arnautovic: 81 apps, 12 gls, 1 in every 6.75
Chadli: 74 apps, 14 gls, 1 in every 5.28
Brunt: 206 apps, 22 gls, 1 in just over every 9

Alexis Sanchez is the most prolific "midfielder" in the league, with Hazard, Mahrez, Mane, other wing-wing forwards behind him. Eriksen is the most prolific attacking mid, with Mata and surprisingly Sigurdsson behind him

Teixeira will not score at a prolific rate in the league, look at all those numbers he's up against, if he did he'd be the best player in the league pretty much. This league is built for strikers/wingers/pure number 10s. They are the most likely to be prolific scorers in the league imo.

I reckon someone will bid around 15m for him in the off-season, maybe 20m.

Newcastle actually wouldn't be the worst destination for him come the off-season if they progressed and Ashley spent again in the transfer window (big ifs though).

Think he'll probably want to try another league if he leaves Liverpool though.
He'd never go for less than 20 million. If we do sell him at all.

Yeah I think he wants to stay but I just cant see a future for him. Im not saying we will definitely sell him but Firmino is preferred, Origi was too before he was injured, then Ings will be back and we might buy another striker in the summer. If Sturridge gets fit too... Teixiera comes in? Where does Benteke fit. If you stay up, you could do far worse than bringing in Benteke.

You guys operate well with a target man, unlike us. Tekkers is one of the best target men in the business.

But what exactly is Teixiera? Is he an attacking midfielder, a number 10, a winger? We know he can play anywhere across the front three, so that too would include as a striker.

He has 26 goals in 25 games in all comps and 22 in 15 games in league. I dont watch any Shakhtar games but surely he must be up front to be plundering those kinda stats.

He plays anywhere in the 3 AMs, kinda like Lallana and Coutinho, or Lamela for us, I doubt he can play as a 9 though

Shakhtar have played 4-2-3-1 for a while also, players like Willian, Mkhitaryan, Costa etc have played for them obviously in those positions

Lamela was a 1 in 3 player at Roma for etc, it's a massively different ball game in the PL, as seen of those stats I've put up, midfielders very rarely score at a rate of better than 1 in 4, if they did then they're in PFA TOTY contention such as what Mahrez is right now or Barca/Real Madrid come after them.

Improving your central midfield (haven't done this since Rafa) instead of buying every flavour of the month attacking mid/winger would improve your team imo

Disagree. We need goals. We need help in midfield and in defense too and those positions can be sorted in the summer. Right now we need goals and Teixeira, whatever his position is scores a bucket load of them. Who knows how he will make the transition to English football? He could be great, he could be average.

Let's wait and see if we sign him first which I still dont think we will. It's gone quiet. Ayres went over to Florida and came back pretty quick. I think both parties are pretty far away in their estimation of the player.

Problem is he plays in a position where you have made way too many signings in over the last 3 years, you keep on buying the same types of players time and time again yet you get the same old results with them as the same central midfielders supply them.

He won't be your short-term saviour, go out and find a big strong box to box or holding mid to replace Lucas or Allen with, your team would be far better off that way and would probably help others with supply while helping out defensively also.

25-30m will get you a gun holding mid/box to box, even go for a Xhaka, he'd be a huge improvement for your midfield probably and would probably cost a similar amount to Teixeira.

Appreciate the effort you've gone to with these posts, but I disagree with your evaluation of what type of player Teixeira is and your assertion that he wouldn't be able to perform to a high standard in the PL. As for Willian, Fernandinho, Douglas Costa & Mkhitaryan, forget what positions they play in, my point was that these are 4 players who played at the same club, in the same league as Teixeira. The ability of all 4 to make the step up from the Ukrainian league to the EPL or Bundesliga was questioned at the time, and all 4 have proven those concerns to be completely unfounded.

As for what type of player Teixeira is/what role he plays, I've watched a number of his games over the last week or 2, and while he's versatile enough to play a number of positions he definitely seems most comfortable (and plays most frequently) as an inside forward - picking up the ball and driving at defenders, drifting across the top of the area and linking up with his team mates before making penetrating runs in behind the back 4 and latching onto through balls.

In short, he's a well rounded attacker and can perform a number of roles, but while he might be listed on FM as an attacking midfielder he is definitely more a Sanchez (finisher) than a Coutinho (creator), this is supported by the fact that he only has 5 assists to go with his 26 goals so far this season.

Edit: I do agree that we need to strengthen other areas, but by far our biggest concern right now is a lack of goals. Too many games this season we've had the ascendancy for the majority of the game, peppered the opposition goal, failed to score and been sucker punched down the other end. Goals and by extension goal scorers are by far the most critical determinants of success in this league, just ask Leicester.

So he's going to make Lallana and Origi redundant as that is basically the role they play themselves cutting in from the left

Not necessarily. If we signed him I'd go with Firmino at CF, Teixeira inside left, Lallana/Milner/Ibe on the right, midfield 3 of Coutinho, Henderson & Lucas. Plenty of flexibility there to change systems between/during games.

An even bigger if would be how you'd set up when Sturridge finally returns to the side, but that's 1 hypothetical too many for me.
