Well the dream was nice while it lasted, but can't see him getting to us in the PSD...

He could always refuse to sign with those clubs if he really wants to come to Essendon. Or he could put a price on his head that no one else can pay.

no he can't. he has to nominate his terms before the PSD and any club prepared to accept his terms can pick him and he is bound to that club. effectively he is putting his signature on a contract and the first club to sign that contract gets him.

Surely we would have the most space in our cap.

I'm not saying we spend a fortune getting him, but if we had a front loaded contract like Carlton were threatening with Judd we just might.

Carlton you would think are out of the equation, they will be paying their players in crackers for a while.

I would imagine that the 900k we're rumored to have offered him would be enough to make most of the clubs ahead of think twice about him.

i was responding directly to the statement that "he could refuse to sign with another club" - which is false. he can not refuse to sign if a club picks him up in the PSD. (as far as i know, and if he can he certainly can't be then selected by us with a later selection)

yes we could get him to put a price on his head, but do we really want to do that? bear in mind how many times we have been burnt in the past by recycled players. this is a guy that has been at brisbane for 5 years and still hasn't proven he is consistently good enough at afl level. he kicked 7 goals in a game this year but then 2 weeks later he had 7 possessions against hawthorn. i'd rather not commit to a 3 year, close to 1million deal on a guy who has showed a couple of glimpses of brilliance in amongst a whole lot of mediocrity.

It is understood the Dons, who have pick five in the December draft, have been encouraging the out-of-contract forward to commit to the Dons in a three-year, $900,000 deal.

He can refuse to sign for a club, but he'll have to stand out of football for a year or so.

NOWAY you guys will get him now, 0 chance. We've plenty of room in our cap, about a million dollars. We'll easierly be able to fit him in, EASIERLY!!! Miller commented on SEN straight after the trade period that we'll now turn our focus on him.

If you have a million dollars in your cap, you are only currently paying 85% of your cap, which is in breach of AFL rules.

No doubt you probably have 300K in your cap, but if you reckon you have 1 million, you are kidding yourself.

You got McMahon for 300k, kids don't leave a top side in their home state for base wage and you kept Schultz who is also on good coin.

If you have a million spare and you don't get Brennan, you're in trouble.

Brennan Question

With questions surrounding Brennan landing in the red and black via the PSD, is he able to nominate for the national draft and we take him there? It'd just be a matter of using a pick higher than most others are willing to use.

Re: Brennan Question

Brisbane would have to delist him beforehand, which they won't.

No, he is in exactly the same boat is Bradley. Uncontracted, thus can walk into the PSD at his leisure.

hence why it was hard to do a deal with freo, as they know they can have him for free more than likely!
