North are only offering that much money because they have to. Polec would be moving:

• Away from family
• From a contender to a bottom 10 side (and likely to stay that way through his prime)
• Away from a club where he'd otherwise have a community for life
• From a club which has successfully saved his career through their management of his foot

The only thing going for him over there is that North have lots of inside mids which might help protect him as an outside ball winner. He's flourishing this year as he's got SPP, Rockliff and Wines all charging about through the mids.

Depends on what his motivation is. Not everyone is motivated solely by money (or more money), and/or contract length.

I'd probs take Norths first pick if Polec wanted to go! Would not offer him 5 year deal, with injury history.

In 2013, We bought Polec, gained Pick 21 (Impey - which is now StK 2nd round 2018 (20-22) and lost 2013 Pick 14 (Cam Mcarthy,GWS).

If we get Norths 1st rounder, 2018 pick (7-12). That's not a bad return.

Polec is our number one outside mid, but he also goes missing, and is suspect when dragged to defend inside 50. We desperately need to recruit some more outside mids. At least we know Westy has another decade in him.

We need to be barracking for whoever is playing North for the rest of the year. And st.kilda!!

He's a good chance to go. He uses his contract years as motivation and openly admits that at the club. If he goes for a big contract and length, buyer beware.

The amount Gaff would command would be much greater than what we are paying Polec now. We would have to look at whether, with other contracts and extensions that are coming up we have the available cap and that is of course dependent on whether Gaff wants to leave anyway. There was a lot of talk on this board and the Adelaide board about Sloane with most people coming to the conclusion him leaving was a fait accompli. Then he went and signed a long contract, I can see this happening with Gaff.

Kornes seriously undersells Polec in that article. There's a reason he sometimes gets tagged for starters.
