I wanted Polec over Gaff for his X factor and upside.

Subquently the Gaff choice looks really solid, but wouldn't surprise me to see Polec become something special.

FWIW, I also wanted Polec over Heppell due to the risk of soft Vics getting homesick.

Whilst Ebert's move has shown that SA has some pull, its still less of a risk.

I think many are getting confused here. Polec was a high pick due to his level of talent. This doesn't automatically suggest he should be able to make a big contribution immediately.

Regardless of the club's intents in using the high pick on Jared, unfortunately there is an expectation for early selections of midfielders to make an immediate impact. These expectations are purely that of the fans, and have been encouraged by the success of previous draft picks. Until Polec strings together several break out games this will continue to dog him on BF, unfairly IMO.
