Clearly the exception rather than the rule.

Just because a single player has played for an exceptional number of years, doesn't mean it should be expected from other players.

I would be surprised if Tarrant plays on beyond next year.

It isn't a bad contingency plan in the event of injury given our current key forward depth. Reid or Tarrant. I don't think anyone is arguing it as a preferred or permanent option. At least I wasn't.

When Taz was at his best up forward, he was great to watch. But I agree that him going forward would not be the preferred plan. I can see he and Brown potentially rotating through FB depending on form and fitness levels, but when both are fit, Taz would take the third tall/smaller option. The other option is that they both play KD posts and they try to free up Reid a little more in the back half to set up the rebound.
 
If it is known we will take he will be gone before get the chance. There are a lot of seagulls around our IP and intel. If he lasts to Carlton expect them to nab him.

Age has no factor on KPP's imo.
Who care's if he is 25. If he can be a good back up to injuries forward or back for the next 3,4,5 years then great.

You don't always need to draft best 22 players who are going to squeeze out players from only 4 positions. We have Cloke, Dawes, Reid and Brown as long term forwards and backs - 2 are already bona fide A graders in their positions, one is getting there and the other has had some troubles, with another year's security in Tarrant.

Keeffe is coming along and if we bring Dalton in we will finally have the ruck, back and forward depth covered (given Brown is fit) for the time of our premiership window.

Dalton seems like a developed player, and we could keep him for 2-5 years until we unearth someone from the 2012 draft who developes into what we all really want.

Look, we don't really need him to recapture his form from 10 years ago (i.e All Aus, broke record for most marks taken in a year, multiple long long leads up the wings) but just someone who can provide additional leads / options to Cloke and Dawes, and take a good defender. Should be good for around 2 goals a game there as well. I still think he is probably a better defender, but while we have excess down back (if we assume we do) then I think it is a powerful proposition.

Maybe I am dreaming, but I get a little excited with thinking of Cloke, Taz, and Dawes in the one forwardline...
 
Taz is fullback in 2012. ur dreaming if u think his gonna play forward or nathan brown will take his spot!

What is it about Brown that makes you not rate him. And don't say anything about injuries because they are largely irrelevant.

I rate Brown as a promising key defender IF he stays injury free (high chance he WONT) but as were in premiership mode we play our best team, and as last year shows Tarrent was sensational and no way in hell he'll be moved.

How can u possibly say injuries are largely irrelevant? Him and his twin brother regulary get struck down with serious injuries and their bodies are very unstable and will only get worse with age. The confidence in his own body lost from these incidents will be noticable and physically players are never able to get back to their best from these types of injuries. Had a friend who did a kneecap injury similair to Brown's in white water rafting, as of the way it healed the knee will never ever be able to return to its best and that of course usually happens with ALC's as well unless you get lucky. players regulary need another reco later in life on the same knee.

The injuries also rob him of match fitness, and take his development backwards after not really playing since late 2010(detraining).

In 2010 he wasnt in our best 22, he didnt have the FB spot until injury of another gave him a chance. Tarrent played a better 2011 season than presti did in 2010 so how now does Brown kick tarrent out when he couldnt kick presti out of the spot? especially after comming off a whole year injured.

What people fail to realize, in lamest terms, is most injuries permanetly worsen the player and physically/mentally they cant get back to the same point.

Brown is massively overrated from his 2010 grand final performance, and since then people have realized Riewoldt isnt that hard to shut down anymore and his a mile away from the star he used to be, and theres no way his ahead of Tarrent in the pecking order.

Blaze, in the same way that you argue about Brown's injuries getting worse as he gets older, you could argue in the same breath that Tarrant is aging and is more susceptible to calf and achilles injuries (which almost was the case leading into the finals).

I thought Taz was great for us this year. I hope that he will be just as good next year. I am happy that we have three falls who can all play key defensive posts when called upon. But at the same time, I would back a 23 year old coming back from injury in season over a 31 year old recovering from a soft tissue injury.

I can see all three playing top be honest. Particularly when the opposition has a third tall forward.

I don't disagree with your assertion that Tarrant is ahead of Brown. But thats based on an assumption that we go with a traditional FB/CHB combo. With the trend towards taller forward lines I think there is room to fit all three (Reid/Tarrant/Brown) in the same defence depending on match ups particularly considering Tarrants versatility.

Your argument about injuries is hugely flawed and based on next to nothing.

Its no coincidence him and his twin brother both had done their shoulders and knees for memory.. the wce one certaintly has terrible shoulder problems. plus their both really injury prone to other injures... neither can get out on the park, a mixture of bad luck and bad genes. Whilst his not gonna split his patella again rest assured injury prone players will find a way to get injured again. Nathan Brown is just the reincarnation of Rusling, the more he gets injured the more potential he has, the longer his out the more were desperate to have him back in in the 22, but he keeps finding ways to get injured.

NOt entirely true. He played every game for our VFL in 07 and played 23 games in his first senior year in 08. Only played 50% of games in 09 and 10. 2011 was a write off. Give him an injury free pre-season and we'll see how he goes in 2012/2013 before I'll pass him as injury prone.

2007 he played a full season in the VFL, 2008 he played a full season in the AFL, in 2009 he played 14 games before getting his first major injury. 2010 was spent between the VFL and AFL (I don't think there were m/any weeks when he didn't play at all) and 2011 he obviously didn't play damaging his knee.

He's not like Rusling who would play 2 games, do his shoulder, return, play a game and do his shoulder again etc.

I can't remember if he was in and out of the side because of a series of short term injuries or whether he had a prolonged injury. Plus he would have missed a few games because of form and fighting for a spot against Presti in 2009 and 2010.
